Rikola would literally be the Jack Johnson of the pens if JJ wasn’t on the pens.
- Grinder47

He was actually worse than JJ his first year. His second year he did really well on the bottom pairing when he got opportunities.

Most of those Avs prospects are more in the Legare/Hollander range. Maybe you can argue Murray isn't worth that, but he probably still gets at least that type.
- Tojo.

Here is a decent read on Murray's suitors:

Nice write up. I've been driving the Kylington train for a while but having a hard time imagining the Pens getting another LD.

Using Murray plus one of our mid tier prospects to get someone like Kaut from the Avs would be cool.

I'll settle for moving him with JJ as a cap dump for nothing but I dont know how many teams would be willing to do that either.

I am setting really low expectations on what the Pens will actually get so I can hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

Of course he didn't, neither did I. Feds puts a lot of stock in point production as many analytics types do. Unless I'm looking for a PP QB, I look at projectable tools and role more.
- Tojo.

Well, I get nervous having young, inexperienced defensemen in starting roles on a team with Cup aspirations. Granted, I would rather just about anyone other than he who shall not be named.

As for scoring, at some point, we do need to add scoring defensemen. The Pens have to be one of the lowest goal-scoring defensive units and maybe overall scoring. All that does is put more pressure on the top six, especially when our bottom six is filled with non-scorers. It's such a huge advantage to have defensemen who can score or are at least be a threat to score.

The avs are the kind of team that could use Hornqvist in my opinion. They have all the ingredients and Horny can be that unique luxury player for them.

Just thinking out loud... Maybe a Murray/Horny package?

This is how it usually happens. GMJR typically goes after guys widely known as being available. And then in his press conference will say "as soon as I heard this player was available, things started moving quickly".

Not sure how GMJR makes a trade for Dumba work haha but I've seen crazier things...

I don't think we have anything close to what it would take. You are talking a true established top 6 center to start, which we can't afford. But i'm looking forward to people trying to come up with something lol

Isn't Landeskog just a better Hornqvist?

Interesting, but he doesn't fit the Pens' situation.

He's also pretty overrated in my opinion. Had an incredible season last year but seemed to regress to the mean this season. It's possible he'd be our third best RD, and he's making $6 mil a year. We can't afford to put a $6 mil guy on the third pairing.

Agreed on the overrated part for sure. My guess is the Pens are done on D at this point, but as I've mentioned before, if they go for another RD I'd be looking into TVR.

He's obviously better... landeskog is more of a traditional power forward than a net front guy. I dunno just watching some of the Avs playoff game they're def a buzzsaw but felt like they could use a poop stirrer in front of the net.

Yeah that would reek of "let's get Dumba so we can trade Letang" which wouldn't be super smart.

Honestly if we don't play the anchor, and build a competent third scoring line well be good.

- 668710

Based on NHLe and the fact he was traded for a conditional 6th or whatever. It’s pretty telling that he was a massive surprise and who knows maybe he was just a one year wonder.
