I'm wondering though, as the Pens lost to two teams two years in a row that arnt overly big and phsycial, is GMJR going to even have a grit boner this offseason. Yeah, the Islanders play hard but I don't think of them as a big brawny punishing team. Isles and Habs played a faster game for most part, especially Islanders last season and the Habs the last 1.5 games of the series.

The buzzwords have been “young and fast,” so I don’t see him specifically focusing on grit, although I don’t think it would hurt to add a guy with a physical edge.

We definitely need to find a Josh Anderson/Miles Wood type of player for our bottom 6. (Yes I realize one is much more talented than the other ...just in terms of style). That should satisfy the fast grit boner.

Puljujarvi doesn't interest me in really any way. He won't beat out Horny, Kapanen, or Rust and I don't think he has the potential to ever be a top 6 player.

I mean he's been playing well outside of the NHL which gives reason to think that he just had edmonton syndrome. I think he could be a really nice third line RW with top PP potential.

Not crazy interest either but would much rather get a guy with potential upside for Murray than a pick or a run of the mill bottom 6/bottom pairing veteran.

I can definitely see this logic. I guess I figured that Murray would net someone more established, but if we use him to dump JJ we can't really expect that in return.

Not a bad idea, but since we acquired Kap, I don't see a spot for Pulj unless we are getting rid of Horny (or Tanev), and he doesn't replace what Horny does. Also, it would cost more to not play or buyout Russell than it would JJ, at least for the first year (I think this is accurate). I don't think either should play so it doesn't matter who is better than who.

Relating back to the discussion of using one of our few remaining assets to acquire a good defenseman, I think it makes more sense to focus on 3C unless something really good comes along. The smart thing to do with JJ, IMO, is to either bury or buy him out instead of using assets to get rid of him. The cost to do either is minimal.

A lot of talk about the Pens needing to save trade capital for a 3c, but i think their best option as it stands now would be signing Huala as a UFA.

If he can be had for really cheap, then ok, but he's a huge injury risk and I'd want a solid back-up plan. He damaged cartilage in his knee and that doesn't heal - it can only get worse.
