marleau waives his nmc so he can get bought out. gives up a sure job so the leafs have cap space to sign other players.

Sure it does. Leafs have 7.8M cap space right now and if you add Nylander's 7M they have plenty of room to add legit pieces.

Marner was trending towards another 90+ point season and has been far more defensively responsible than Willie. I'd argue that Mitch is a core player while BillNy, a nice piece, is a complementary type player.
