Lindblom was noticeably slow and you could see him fall or lose his balance as he tired. How will he feel today? I don't know but if they have a better option they should use it
- wcorvette

He was terrible. Understandably and inspiringly terrible, for sure, but still terrible.

I’d definitely like to see them be more physical with Barzal. When they back off bad things happen.
- hereticpride

Yes! They opened the game being all over him but after that, not so much.

The coach chose to put in a guy who hadn’t played in 9 months and just finish cancer treatments over Frost. If that doesn’t make it clear that it is extremely unlikely that Frost will play I don’t know what will.

You’re actually making my case for me.

Look i’m saying what i’d do. AV is going to bring back michel therrien next year...and he couldn’t be a more pompous loser. When he got fired mid-season in Pittsburgh because every player hated his guts...they hired dan blysma...probably the worst coach in nhl history to win the stanley cup.

So let’s not assume that AV’s decision making is beyond reproach.

BRING OUT THE FROST!!!

Not in the loop....does AV not like Frost?

If so, he should be the centerpiece of a trade in the off-season.

Fonzie says EXACTA-MUNDO!!!

Lindblom isn’t up to playoff hockey.

Not his fault. Is what it is.

Next (game shape) man up...

Gonna give you a hard no on that.

Same style of player as G...only a faster 2020 version of him.

G will be descending down the line up in the next 2 years...father time and all...

I saw you on the Islanders blog talking about how you dreaded the game because the isles were going to crush us

Your fan card has been removed and the flyers hate you

Good day, sir

I did not see this Giroux you are describing, Bill.

On the pass you reference, he got lucky. With a clear lane to lay it ahead, he made an uncharacteristically poor pass. If it had gone where it was intended, it would have slowed Scotty down. Toews deflects it with his stick and it lays out perfectly for Scotty to take it in full stride.

- PT21

I watched the same game and I have no earthly idea how you could possibly know this? So you're saying that Giroux intended to make a bad pass. This statement lacks any and all common sense and is really just absurd

Otherwise, I saw some effort, but that's about it. Thompson dominated almost to the same extent as Giroux did on FOs. That's good but that's 5% of what we expect.

- PT21

Giroux didn't play as well as the previous game but as to the faceoff comments. Really? LOL. Giroux took 39 faceoffs to 16 for Thompson. One of these is not the same.

From an eye test, Hayes showed it is possible to be creative even with this disciplined, stingy Isles D. Advanced stats confirm this. Giroux had an expected goal score (iXG) of 0.08! That puts him 10th on the Flyers roster with 30 mins of ice time. Even NAK is ahead!

In watching Giroux, the will and effort are clearly there. I don't see the skating speed slow too much.

But the elite reads are a half-second slower than they used to be. The puck stays on the stick a tad longer than it used to, and the anticipation has slowed down.

Sure there are flashes, and I hope there will be more, but the decline is pretty evident now and has been for some time.

One line last night for the Flyers controlled play. Which one was it?

well, i will be delighted to eat my words on flyers losing series to isles. give them credit for resilience and heart/hart last few games! has any team won a 7 game series all with overtime victories?
how to win game 7....
no more dubious challenges.
no more dumb penalties.
un lame the power play.
more controlled exits and entrances.
oskar scores game winning goal in overtime.

JVR in a nutshell:

Individual expected goals created: 0.5 (highest on team)
Relative Corsi: -22.31 (lowest on team)

Imo, its good to see the big fella go. I would live with his effort happily given our problems creating good chances.

No, he wasn't terrible but clearly was not able to play at the pace that he normally plays at. He was not all over the puck like he normally is.

JVR was very engaged last night. I saw him backcheck quite a few times and he was breaking up Islanders rushes bc he would come back and cover his man

All in all I was impressed with JVR last night . Aa streaky as he is I am hoping he is on another hot streak and carries that into the next series

Funny you mentioned JVR's goal as a John LeClair type goal. As soon as he let that rip I said out loud in my living roo, "ala John LeClair."

Well, we’re lucky to still be playing but so glad we’ve got the chance to win this series against a team that matches up very well against us. TK not scoring but he certainly has been in on the offence thus far.

No one intends to make a bad pass/play.

He made a pass that would have turned out to be bad had it gone where it was directed. It would have gone directly to Scotty, instead of lying ahead of him.

That is impossible for you to know. It's a ridiculous statement. Especially when it involves a precision gifted passer of the puck like Giroux. It's mind boggling.

Have to agree, humongous sample set there. Kudos for manning up though.

And btw, iXG is by now a widely used measure by guys who make their living writing about hockey. There is the Corsi type crowd and the iXG type crowd, but a responsible writer mentions both.

Not useless, but when you use it as a "be all end all", yeah it's pretty irrelevant.
