He came once he was too old...which is why we do not want kovalchuk back
- Karine Hains

To my surprise, Kovalchuck was a positive influence on the kids when he was here. I really did not expect that from him, thought he would be a lot more selfish trying to get his next contract.

I don't really want Kovalchuck back, especially if that is the big/only forward move of the offseason. But he might be a help with the kids, and especially, Romonov on a 1 year cheap contract and knowing he will not play all the games.

Kovalchuk is a different story.

I'm not saying I want him back, but the guy was a living legend coming over and showed a glimpse of what he once was. He gave excitement to a season that was mostly already over.

And considering how things went for him in Washington, I wouldn't be shocked to see him being interestd to come back.

I'd actually consider it if there are no other better additions being made. If anything he can be an inspiration to our young players moving forward.

Obviously it would have to be pretty damn cheap.... but he wouldn't look out of place on the powerplay I'm sure.

I know the upside but i’d rather move forward and make room for youth... he was a non factor in WASH and when we got him he was rested as well. Not sure how he’d do over 82 games and all that...if he’s willing to move down in the line up fine though

He can't be any worse than Max Domi on the wing can he?

My concern is that MB will be left with nothing, and to compensate, will make a stupid 2 (or more) year offer to Kovalchuk to say he got something.

Don't be silly.

Kovalchuk will get a 1 year, 2.5.-3M contract as a plan B.

Nothing else.

one has to wonder though how he'll play through 82 games... what he did last year was great, but I doubt he's able to keep that pace, he ain't a spring chicken anymore

While I do not expect next season to be 82 games long, likely something considerably shorter - 50-60 game range - I would still expect him to sit out at least 1 of 3 games (or more), regardless of what team gives him a contract.

Yeah, as long as he's ok with that possibility, no reason it cannot work out.

Until they realize it is the 3 weakest drafts in draft history.
