Draft a goalie in the second round, not the first IMO
So many good goalies taken after the first around and they are such a crapshoot compared to position players - Archaic
Askarov is miles ahead of any other goalie in this class. He will be a first rounder, question is will he go in the top ten or does Carolina get him with the Leaf pick at #13. Everything I read about him says he's going to be exceptional. |

Is Grubaur better? Doesn’t seem to be. Unless someone we’re trading for is better or we’re sure he’s as good, and we’re getting something else, forget it. |

Trump disrespects the military. Refuses to visit military cemetery in France because it would ruin his hair. Says the cemetery 'is full of losers'. Repulsed by veterans injured in combat.

Baboons rioting in the streets was a racist comment like fans throwing bananas on the ice in London when Wayne Simmonds is playing. All this coming from someone who’s been banned for racist comments in the past. I’m sure it’s just an innocent comment - Canada Cup

Guy was the starter in Colorado, and was pretty good all year.
How is it that Andersen is poop during the season, playoffs and play in, but when it comes to trade proposals, he's better than whoever is coming back. |

irrespective of content of the political posts - dozzer made it clear a few days ago that posts with any political character shouldn't be on here and would be deleted.
would be great if other refs would comply with that rule as well.
seems like a good rule to only tolerate posts related to leafs/sports (/food etc.) since rest is just meant to stir up things (e.g. CanadaCup is just posting to get a reaction - there are thousands of fora where politics can be discussed) |

Because whether you like him or not, Freddy has solid trade value. His contract makes him even more attractive to poor teams. $1 million in real dollars next season. Freddy has poop the bed at key moments in the playoffs but he's also racked up alot of regular season wins. He's consistent. Goaltending is very flavour of the day. One minute you're great the next minute you're washed up and overpaid.
The Leafs aren't going to hold out for a fantasy land overpay deal. But they're not going to just give him away for pennies on the dollar. Given Matt Murray is a former Soo Greyhound and Rutherford is pretending he has leverage, I'd be surprised if Murray isn't the Leafs starting goalie next season. |

Askarov will be an NHL goalie in a couple of years, Carter Hart was 18, Price was 20 when they started playing in the NHL. In the meantime, Campbell is signed. There are perhaps a dozen goalies available as either UFA or by trade by the draft to tide the Leafs over. Corey Crawford for one and LV will be moving MAF. He watched from the bench last night as Lehner shat the bed an let in 3 goals on 19 shots while rookie Demko stopped 48 in a shutout. - winsix
And what if they turn out to be a Bernier, or Montoya vs. a Price/Hart. Most goalies arent ready that quick.
Look at the list of goalies taken in the first round. Not bad, but its not perfect either.

Askarov was lit up at the WJC. I need to see more of him before I believe him to be the next Dominik Hasek like he's being portrayed to be. He'll certainly need some time to develop. |

Exactly, I wouldnt bet my first rounder on him. Look at Jack Campbell, he was drafted 11th overall.

If Leafs really want a goalie of the future.. They should make a play for Dostal.
Ducks have a couple more in the system, however he is the best of the lot.
Bet against Czech goalies at your own risk. He could be a backup as soon as this yr. Really nothing left to prove in Liiga...
He just turned 20 and had a 1.78GA with 928 save % |

Yeah I'd wait until the second round for a goalie. But I do expect Askarov to be taken in the 10-15 range only because he's being so overhyped right now. Florida took Spencer Knight fairly high. Maybe we'll see more of this. It's still burning in my brain that Ken Holland drafted Givani Smith one pick ahead of Carter Hart in the second round.
Holland once wasted a first round pick on Thomas McCollum. Who? Exactly. 🤮 |
