Clueless, no rebuilding team is going to give up a top young prospect.

Valimaki is going to be a Star. Period.
That’s why every trade Tre has tried to make in the last year fell through, because every team wants Vali.
Andersson, Valimaki Gio, Hanifin ( who is still just a kid FYI ) are a pretty solid top 4 let alone if Brodie resigns.

It's definitely not as cut and dry as that. He's had major injuries three years in a row and missed a ton of time during the critical years where he's supposed to be learning how to be a pro hockey player. He didn't play a single game anywhere this past year. You don't become a better hockey player rehabbing injuries. His 26 NHL games were mostly uneventful.

Could he become the next Makar or Heiskanen, sure, but he could flame out and be a bust in three years. He's nothing but a question mark right now and the Flames can't plan on him being part of the top 4 this year.

Hanifin may only be 23, but he's also played 400 games and hasn't improved at all since he joined the Flames. He's probably not going to get any better. He's a mediocre top 4 with a below-average IQ.

NJ should move one of their first round picks. Either the AZ or Vancouver pick to get him. Add Nick Merkley and phone it in. NM is a Calgary kid. Right hand C/RW. Decent AHL numbers. Not sure what else the Flames can get for him especially if they are clearing cap space.

Who exactly would NJ trade to get Johnny Hockey? Hischier, Hughes, Ty Smith, Foote, Walsh, Blackwood? I mean, we're struggling as it is and adding a top tier player with 1 year left on his contract while giving up a top prospect makes no sense. I would just assume suck again, give all these kids another year to mature, and grow organically. Unless he is available for a pick or two and an older roster player, i'm a hard pass.

I agree with you. Palmieri and your 1st is already too much in potential value as I think Palmieri still has 2 good years and can probably perform better in the Playoffs, but still I don't think Treliving needs to settle for that. If it were Foote or T. Smith, plus Palmieri, and a 1st I think the Flames do that right away. The added bonus is that its Johnny Hockey, NJ boy, coming home, and a pretty marketable name to fill seats, which I imagine the owners would like?

I think you are on the right track but it would have the be #7 plus or Calgary would be getting less for 2 years of JG than Arizona paid NJ for 3 months of Taylor Hall. I'm thinking #7, and Palmieri would get it done.

Devil's ownership has done a very good job at marketing the team.

What they aren't good at is giving us a product worth watching. We've been rebuilding for years and the most we have to show for it is cap space...

Noah Hanifin turns 24 in January and has nearly 400 NHL games under his belt.

If he's still a kid so are McDavid, Eichel, Aho, Marner, Provorov, Werenski, etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, that is pure madness. If you look at Gaudreau and Palms, they're pretty equal on the goal scoring front. Gaudrea hitting 36 goals once, and Palms hitting 30 goals once, but for the most part I would label them both 25-30 goal scorers. You get a lot more assists from Gaudrea though, I would say on average he is 20-30 points better than Palms doing napkin math. To add in a first round pick, AND a 20 year old defender that has won 3 consecutive "defense man of the year" trophies in the CHL and WHL respectively, is borderline insanity. Especially when you consider Gaudreau has one year left on his contract. I wouldn't even trade Smith for Gaudrea straight up, much less add a 1st and Palms.

Not that it really matters, but Gaudreau has two years left.

Oh, that does change the equation a bit. I thought it was one. Thanks for the correction. Long story short, there are teams in a better position to use Gaudreau and with a lot more assets to offer up. He isn't coming to Newark, and right now who would want to.

I 100% agree with you just not sure how it goes down. Because of their age and contracts Calgary will have no interest in CG, JV or JVR. Philly does not want to move TK or PM but I think one of them has to be part of the deal from the Flames perspective.

Teams should absolutely be penalized for challenging. Has to be a risk and reward involved. But the biggest thing I have a problem with is these plays that are literally a hair offsides. And sometimes it’s a player gliding back to his bench. It’s not good for a game that wants to increase scoring

Why? AV got it wrong it clearly wasn’t offsides it was stupid of him to challenge it just like his challenger last game. If the islanders scored they would’ve changed the rule at the next GM meeting. Yeah that would’ve been the final straw
