That’s the spirit. Ot again will put me in the cardiac unit.
- Hextall271

ha, it does.

even an OT loss is better than how the rest of 2020 has gone.

I read it as a lighthearted attempt at a reverse jinx. Nothing to get too hung-up about over. Things could be a lot worse.

Truth!
It took me decades to learn that it does not matter on which tv, or in which room, or with whom I watch, the game will play out as if I don't even exist.
Let's Go Flyers!!

I refuse to believe this. The hockey gods are real. I’ve got to carefully select my jersey and hat and decide where’s best to watch. Everything riding on it.

How can we forget? Iirc, they actually called a penalty on OT in game 7!

But that series was not as much of a mismatch as the first 4 games of this series were.

- PT21

I respectfully disagree that the first four games of this series were a mismatch. Even in Game 1 (a 0-4 loss), the score was not an indicator of how close the game was for most of the 60 minutes. The Flyers entered the third down one goal, having dominated possession during most of the second period and the start of the third. Then two mental errors resulted in a quick 3-0 lead for NYI, who have proven very adept at closing games with late leads.
The true mismatch has been that the Islanders have made the Flyers pay for a higher percentage of mistakes than vice versa. That can change quickly.

Colorado won their second cup after losing forsberg to an appendectomy after the first round in the 2002 playoffs.

Pittsburgh won game 7 in detroit in 2009 with crosby injured on the bench.

This Flyers team with or without coots can win games 6 and 7. They are NOT the fcking 95 devils!!!

Last year this isles team WITH Tavares got swept in the 2nd round by the hurricanes.

Their defense is garbage!!!

No scott stevens...no
scott neidermayer last time i checked!!!

LET’S GO FLYERS !! !!!

Ruptured spleen, not appendectomy. He played two games with a goddamned ruptured spleen. But then, this is the guy who repeatedly had hit foot broken to try and reset the bones to be able to curing his skating wobble and prolong his career after he had won everything there was to win.

Do you remember Forsberg in those days? We did not see that Forsberg when he came to EC. The man would be possessed during the playoffs. The sheer maniacal ferocity combined with that sublime skill. We saw more of the latter.

I remember when Forsberg was looking around for a new team before he came to us, there was talk of him going to the Wings. Probably would not have gone there anyway, but apparently some of the Wings old guard did not want him to come even with his skill set. Too much bad blood from the battles of the past 10 years.

I would like to hear the leagues response on why the hit to Farabee’s head is not being disciplined.

Most every time we dump in the islanders interfere with our forecheckers.

The first islander goal last game and the interference non call may be up for debate but the Barzal stick hold on Provorov not getting called on that goal was a blown call.

Hope the flyers can pull this game out.

I too have a firm belief in the hockey gods. I quoted Babcock (when it was thought he was a hockey god?) to my youth team several years ago as he mentioned the hockey gods. I believe, though, that they exist for the players/coaches/teams, but not the fans.
If I recall what Babcock had told the Wings, it was basically that the hockey gods are karma; play the game the right way, and with desire, and the bounces tend to go your way. Be truer to the game, and get rewarded.

Fair enough, but I disagree. Possession is not that significant if play is kept to the outside in their zone and they get a quality chance almost every time they enter our zone.

Those mental errors, imo, come from the fear of the Isles offense, combined with our own impotency on that front. Just speculation on my part.

Well if coots can’t go. I would hope the entire team pushes as hard as they can. Step it up for that man.

We can over-analyze this (and why not), but the Athletic did have some interesting observations today.
1. The importance of Pulock-Pelech (this surprised me)

2. Exit struggles of Myers and Braun relative to regular season:

3. Nature of scoring chances: Isles versus Flyers (this is pretty consistent with the eye test)

Let's hope that the goals by G and JVR were a sign of things to come.

There is no question, when the effort is there, we are the better team. Problem is the effort hasnt been there.

This is more than just about effort. It really seemed that in the last game, the Flyers seemed to get their offensive confidence back. We'll see if that carries over. Potentially not having Couturier is a big blow to that confidence.

How did this surprise you? It's been blatantly obvious how good they've been.

What do you mean order? We got up 3 1 if I remember correctly. Ovechkin scores on a breakaway in game 6 in our barn and it went to 7. Lupul scores in ot. I seem to remember briere having a good series but don’t remember lupul other than that goal.
- Hextall271

We lost in game 1 of that series and won game 7 for the win. I was interested in knowing the older in which led us to victory. When was the last time we came back 3-1? No I don’t want to talk Boston 2010. Lupul scored his lone goal of the seasons in that Game 7 OT winner.

It seems pretty certain he is out.

AV did not directly comment but said that Flyers have a "next man up" mentality and that Laughton was put on 1st line b/c had best energy in Game5. Said decisions on lineup for tonight are on-going. But said will reward the players in Game6 who have that same energy.

tough, the 1st line was playing really well and G broker through. It would be great to see them play this game while having some confidence. Don't know without Coots maybe G has some of that old magic, knowing he is the man and has no choice but to be the man.

the 4th line has to be better, you know Trots with the last change is going to focus on hammering them.
