I don’t think Lundqvist would be coming back to NY if retirement was in his plans. A few weeks back,Carp wrote that there wasn’t much interest in Gorgiev. I don’t agree with the assessment that if Gorton was actively shopping him, he would have been dealt at deadline. Fans need to stop assuming every team sees him as a future #1. His numbers don’t jump out at you. GAA over 3.00 in 3 seasons. Save % not great. Never been a starter and never been in a playoff game. As mentioned, look at all the proven goalies available. Any interest will be as a backup. As far as Hank, he’s not waiving nmc, unless he’s going to be a starter. Even then, he’s costing a team at least 4.25 mil. Otherwise, he’s staying in NY and waiting to see if Gorgiev does get moved or team buys him out.IMO there’s only 2 scenarios. Gorgiev finally gets dealt, or more likely, Gorton knows what teams are interested in Hank as a starter and works together on buying out Hank so he can sign cheap for said team. As far as expansion. Rangers aquired Berube last year. I think they sign him as the guy they make available next year.

I definitely believe that the trade value of Georgiev is not that high

but I get yelled at when I say playing him in the bubble could have helped that situation

Jan, unless I am totally wrong, and forgive me if I am, I think your statement that
"New York could eat half his salary, saving $4.25 million, which is akin to a buyout, if Lundqvist waives his NMC and NTC and goes to a desired landing spot."

is incorrect. That figure is half of Hank's cap hit, not his salary for the upcoming season. We would save $2.5M if we retain half on a trade. Hank is only due $4.5M more this season.
No?

1. I never yelled.
2. I didn't say it wouldn't help his value. If he had played well, it certainly would have.

What I did say was that no coach ever worried about starting someone in a playoff game in order to raise their trade value. Playoff wins trump all other considerations.

Cap dollars not actual dollars. Basically a ram like Arizona loves these because they get a cap his of the 4.5 but only have to pay out 2.25 or whatever is actually left on his contract money wise. Allows them to get closer to cap floor but not actually spend the money.

Arizona definitely does not have the problem of trying to stay above the cap floor anymore though

they were the highest cap team in the league this past season and are still very high this coming season

I think with choice between Gorgiev and Hank, they went with experience and his performance vs Canes during season. At that point it’s Quinn’s call. Really hoping he doesn’t have much of a say in off season moves.

I think the coach has to have some sort of input these days. It's not like years ago when they didn't employ much of a system. Now, you have to insert guys who are right for the sort of game you want to play.

there is no market for Hank. too many free agents or better trade options where a team wont be asked to eat contract. otherwise maybe sending a contract back that would be cheaper to buy out? but with a full NMC, seems unrealistic. i think the best we can hope for is that hank retires and gets a high paying job with the team as an assistant to allaire, or even as some mafia style "sit in" job.

He that shall not be named knocked that word right out of my lexicon. Except when referring to flatulence. I still use it that way, occasionally.

if the Rangers got a 2nd and 3rd rounder for Georgiev, would you want that?

or would you rather just hang onto him

That's a tough one.
I think that is a pretty realistic and fair return for a non-clear cut #1.
But, I think I'd rather have him as our backup beyond this season. No idea what to do until then, though...
