I thought they had already come to a new CBA agreement? I'm not sure the owner's can just say no.
Not playing would also lose all of their TV revenue (presumably). Maybe the season gets pushed back. But I'm willing to bet the season starts at the beginning of December and people fill the seats once a vaccine is readily available. - Leafs43
Sean Fitz-Gerald has a good piece in the Athletic today.
Basically says everything is still a giant question mark.
But will non-bubble formats work?
Let's see how the NFL does. |

Fine. Weegar, the 12th pick and Barkov for Nylander and Bracco. - Steven_Seagull
Florida would slam the phone done just for this proposal... You high... Barkov is pretty damn good if you hadn't noticed.

I am wildly pessimistic about the 2020-21 season.
How many owners will want to proceed with no gate revenues? - Atomic Wedgie
20% escrow and 10% salary deferral was, I think, to ensure they could make a season work with no fans.
It'll be a poop show and I'm not sure how they make it work with players, families, a short season, etc... But the industry will need the revenue from tv.
so I think subject to another total shutdown they'll figure out a way to bubble up and make some money. |

I don't want to stray too far off Hockey. But someone paid $140 Million US Dollars for this painting in 2006. Is it the most amazing painting you've ever seen?

Baseball got off to a rocky start. But they seem to be fine now.

depends on their fixed costs.
Grabbed Blues as an example. https://www.forbes.com/nh...uations/list/#tab:overall
Revenue of $171 M. Operating Income of $20 M. Say player salaries are about $80M. Leaves another $70M of expenses.
if they own, they will have property taxes or rent if not. Other big expenses are probably property insurance, some amount of utilities and a bare minimum of staff. They also have about $100M in debt. So maybe $4M of interest payments to make.
my ballpark guess in the minimum costs to run a team like the blues with no season is in the $10M to $20M range.
most teams are probably losing money this year. most owners are probably cash poor in their other business too; and not in a position to fund $10-$20M in additional losses.
no season probably means several franchises go bankrupt. |

It remains to be seen if the Leafs even offer Bracco a new contract.
I hope he gets a fresh start somewhere, but I sincerely doubt he would be considered an asset in any trade. |

The only other team I ever actively cheered for was whatever team Selänne played for, otherwise (frank) literally every single other team in the league except the Leafs (in varying degrees).
If y'all wanna cheer for Canada's team, cheer for the isles. Saw an infographic that they have the most Canadian nationals on their roster out of the teams that are left. If the Isles win, the Cup will spend the most time in Canada.
My two cents. - TheMussel
