and then went and got jake allen. which doesn't solve their goaltender requirements for the expansion draft unless they extend him.

you do not want to extend jake allen.

This.

The league should be packed with teams willing to give up assets to open up cap space and he GIVES the Blues a 3rd for a backup on a 4.3mil cap hit?

- MaximumBone

They should have at least made the Blues keep some of the cap hit or something.

Cant has to be protected because of his no mouvement clause
- Karine Hains

They can, if Price allows them.

But lots of changes coming before that becomes an issue to address.

That still doesnt explain why he gave the Blues assets to allow them to dump cap. Usually teams have to give up assets to do that, not gain them.
- Archaic

This is more than a dump...Steve Mason was a salary dump but this also addresses one of the Habs’ need. Anyways just repeating myself at this stage, got to get back to work. I believe you’ll find Habs fans who are aware of the complete portrait will be pleased with this.

And why would Price allow that? Seems unlikely.

This is a salary dump plain and simple for the Blues. They need to get rid of cap to resign Pietro.

Carey Price has a no movement clause

"One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list."

I believe Lindgren qualifies, if they extend him.

Which will likely happen.

Why do you think we did this deal? For the 3rd round pick?

"The full trade is Jake Allen and a 3rd round pick in 2022 to Montreal while the Blues receive a 3rd and a 7th round pick in the upcoming draft."

Karine it doesn't look like we received a 3rd round pick in 2022, it looks like it's a 7th according to other sources, in which case I like this trade significantly less. We overpaid in a market rich with potential UFA candidates.

yeah I was kidding, since I think it was posted 14 times he had an NMC

so they'd extend Lindgren and keep him in Laval if Seattle doesn't grab him?

No I dont think it was for the 3rd, thats why i dont get the Habs giving an asset for the Blues to be able to dump cap.

It is.

But it's also an asset for the Habs, who gave up 2 picks in a draft where they already have plenty.

I'm just glad the whole backup situation is settled for next season.

Well then that’s a good reason right there... Allows blues to re-sign him and hurts Leafs chances to sign Petro.

Seems like Lindgren is destined to be an AHLer and an injury recall goalie. He will make decent money over his career, but never really be on an NHL roster.

same here. it had been an issue for quite some time and it shouldn't have... a smaller workload should help Price maintain his game at a higher level

If it would be a team within their division, I'd be concerned...but for a team in another conference, I don't have a problem with it.

sounds about right. and it was too early anyways to bring up Primeau, who has more potential... I hope he gets most of the starts in Laval (if there is AHL hockey, not sure what happens if there isn't...)
