I think the issue with the trade is that he(MB) paid the Blues for the privelage of letting them dump cap that everyone knew they needed.

The Blues should have given, not gained from the dump. Other then that, Allen is overpaid, but its fine for the Habs.

I get this but Blues have Habs have made a few trades before. Sometimes you solidify your business with others.

Maybe they could have had an offer from other teams as well

Maybe there's something I'm not seeing here, which there may be since I'm not heavily invested in neither team.

Blues open cap space and are happy in net.

Hab's have a top 5 goalie and add a hefty contract for a backup when they could use the $ on F...?

Only way this kind of makes sense to me is in March right before the trade deadline in an attempt for a SC contender to make a deep(er) run. Which is not the Montreal Canadiens.

Someone in the Sabres office should be on the phone right now with Montreal... Maybe they'll double down on stupidity and take Okposo off their books!

Don't really get this deal for the Habs, but I guess it's more about solidifying the G position than the $$$$, especially with the cap room that MTL has.

I wonder if they are making a play to expose Price to Seattle, I know he has a NMC but he is a BC boy and Seattle is relatively close to home. It would be a hell of a move for the Kraken to take him.

Blues get more cap room to try and re-sign Pietrangelo. Makes sense.

I'm pretty sure they don't, first because Price has a NMC he would need to waive, so that would need to come from his side. And Allen is a great backup but not a good option as a starter IMO. And Price just had killer playoffs just now so that would be a weird timing.

You could argue Montreal wasnt the right trade partner and maybe that is what you are doing but why should the blues have given more to give someone a solid 1/b goalie on a reasonable 1 year contract?

They have plenty of $ left for F even with Allen. And the idea is to rest Price during the season, who was the busiest goalie for a couple seasons now (our previous backups were bad we needed to play Price nearly all the time). That's no use if we get a backup only at the trade deadline.

People act like just because the blues needed to clear cap space that allen isn't still an asset. These two things do not equate.

Dude, you talk like Habs have no money left and they’re tight. Did you know they had 9millions UNUSED last year? We could had used an Allen instead of a Kinkaid.

Count that Domi could be on his way out, Alzner bought out and there’s plenty of money left. Relax!

This is a good trade. Luxury secondary goalie.

And the reason it’s unused is because players don’t want to play there.

Oh well.

And that’s ok. There’s no hurry to tight the cap just to tight the cap.

Agreed that the timing would be weird unless Price is driving it.

Either way, good to see some trades being made!!!!!

Or 4.5m for 3 more years to Ghost. Is he even playing full time?
- gramps

You honestly don’t know his trade value...

Marc bergevin would sht in his depends if he could get his hands on ghost.

In the meantime he gives out RFA offer sheets that he knows will get matched...just to keep the montreal rubes believing that he’s actually getting some where on his 10 year “re-build”...

Triste...tres triste.

Not sure why some people are upset about this trade. I mean Habs has 9millions unused all year. Today Habs are a better team with a Allen then a Kinkaid.

Habs are also not finished trading. I still believe something is up between Habs and AVS but since they are still in playoff, no trade are yet to be announced.

Don’t even know why anyone cares...

I agree, it’s a luxury not a necessity.

I watched Montreal to a degree during these pandemic playoffs. Solid team game but need a couple more playmakers. Buying a luxury as the 23rd place team still doesn’t make sense.
