Depends on what Hagg wants and what other moves are made. I have no problem with Fridemab and Wilcox competing for the 6/7 spot next year.
- jmatchett383

hagg is RFA. To qualify him he will get i think at least a 10% raise. I trade his rights or walk away. Now if he wants back for 1 million or less sure. My guess is the GM resigns him for 2 years at 2 mill per.

Dont think wilcox is in the equation at all.

Okay, but is he incorrect? If Thompson was as bad as many say he is, he doesn't have the coaches trust.

mostly true, maybe all true because there is no other real choice.

I think the Flyers have plenty of options internally to replace a guy like Thompson at least to start the season. Maybe as the season goes on they bring in a "Thompson type" if they are not happy with the internal options or just want depth.

face offs is one the main reasons Thompson is in. I don't think Bunn is as good.

They could always negotiate an extension prior to the QO.

Bill,

Any tweets planned about Braun going 0-7 on shot attempts last night or do you only poop on skilled players via twitter?

Haag is not in the right position, he is no man's land and he is puck watching. Thompson loses body position and lets Clutterbuck head to the net. Myers tried to help and overplayed aggressively but recovers and cuts Clutterbuck off but doesn't have his stick. Hart doesn't block the pass. All of those players made effort but just got beat. One player made little effort and that was Haag. He just basically stood there.
- MJL

Least culpable does not mean blameless, does it. Once Myers loses position and is a half-step behind, he opens up a lane for taking the puck hard to the net. Hagg, who till that time was in neutral position, starts to lean forward in anticipation of having to come between CB and goal. That's his undoing. Here it is, 0.5 seconds before goal.

Suddenly, Clutterback turns his back towards the goal and makes a no-look pass to Brassard, who till then is lurking well behind the goal line. That's 100% a set play. A great play by Hagg would have been to be alert to the pass and get a stick on it. But he was the 3rd or 4th line of defense there. That's asking too much from a guy like him.

Nope. Know why? You don't look to Justin Braun for offense. I have said several times that, while Braun was very good in the second half of the RS before the pause, he hasn't been close enough to that level over much of the playoffs.

But to blame him for not being helpful in the offensive zone is like blaming a plumber because he can't fix the lighting.

With Gostisbehere, you cut him a little more defensive slack if he's producing regular offense. When he's trying -- but not helping-- offensively on top of turning over four pucks (three on a single shift), it's notable.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but few have suggested Couts looked off earlier in playoffs and maybe he was injured. Wonder if he worsened something last night that’s been bothering him all series.

Bill,

I will never understand this recent fixation with D-men creating offense, and that being so very critical. Its a sought after skill set, sure but not at the expense of being dependable on defense. The latter must come first. Else, we might as well have 18 forwards be the skaters.

Hagg, imo, is playing for the same reason Nate is playing. They have a limited set of skills, but they are reliable within that. It makes it easier for Coaches to game plan around a limited but solid set of skills, than a larger set of skills which are much less dependable.

Pitlick would prevent Hart from making any play on the goal, I think that plays into it. If Pitlick is on the other side of Hart then maybe there is a case
- wcorvette

No question. If it was just Barzal between Hart and the post, the goal might've been waived off. However, Provorov is still in there in contact with Barzal.

There are other choices. He doesn't have to basically double shift Thompson in some late game situations.

During the game when we were 1:0 down they showed a stat that Isles are 10:0 in POs when up 3:1. I really thought at that time how cool it'd be to break that streak. In 2010 we gone through similar experience with Boston when 3:0 down.

This team can match Isles if they want, the consistent effort just needs to be there. I am not sure why any professional athlete has to find it only when faced with potential elimination. Strange :-)

- Keith25

Also read a stat that the isles were unbeaten postseason when scoring first.

sorry I wasnt clear, other choices to play instead of Thompson. You could make a case for Bunnaman but the faceoff edge goes to Thompson, so really Thompson is the choice. Though it feels like even when he wins the draw the Isles still get the puck.
