I just wonder how a guy can be 20, an athlete, and be 6 feet tall and weigh 164 lbs. How is that possible? Maybe skaters are advised not to put on weight as quickly as NFL guys, but in the latter case, its pretty much pack the proteins and lift and you will gain 20 lbs in a year easy.

I remember when Lane Johnson came to Eagles, he would eat 17 egg breakfasts.

I would guarantee that Farabee weighs more than 164 lbs.

Probably not, considering the water loss and calorie burn from playing such a compacted schedule. He may be even lighter than 164 right now.

LOL. Players don't lose weight like that. With today's science of hydration and nutrition. I would guarantee that Farabee is playing at around 180.

Players can lose 10+ lbs PER GAME just from water loss. That's w/ constantly hitting the water bottle. Think it was Boucher who said he sweated so much during games he would take off his skates and literally pour water out of them.

You have enough back to backs, three in four nights, etc... you gotta be slamming a LOT of liquid and calories to not gradually lose lbs during a run.

Young kid. High metabolism. Extreme exertion day after day. Maintaining weight would be very difficult.

Edit: plus he's already on the lean side.

Players 100% lose weight like that, old video of Briere taking Taylor hall and seguin through his stick routine talking about as the season going on going to a lower and lower flex because of the weight/strength loss

I know, it was an extreme illustration of what can be done.

I wonder if too much muscle gain, esp in upper body, actually impairs skating ability. I see big boned and thick thighed NHLers, but I dont see many with buff upper bods.

Our old friend Frank Seravelli is saying Laine is available....

Personally I’d love to add him but Winnipeg really needs defense and I don’t see how we can afford to part with any unless they’re really high on Ghost.

It'll be interesting to see what Laine's return will be if he gets moved. Honestly, I don't know why the Jets would even consider moving him, unless its a character/personality issue.

I second that.
SI did a piece on him within the last year. A few teammates from the Miracle Mets went to visit him at his winery and "caught him on a good day" per his wife. Quality person and family. RIP

You're not using much common sense here. So Farabee has played 12 NHL playoff games. So if he's losing 10+ lbs per game, that means that he has lost 120 lbs? Lets say it's 5 lbs per game, so he's lost 60 lbs? Of course not. It's just a temporary fluid loss. The player is re-hydrated and gains most of that back. Nutrition and hydration is so good these days that players recover very quickly. It doesn't drastically change a players playing weight.

Frost isn’t an NHL player. Lindblom is still older. More mature to this level. A lot of players have gotten hurt entire seasons and have made strong returns.
- SuperSchennBros

you only say that cause he was involved in the trade with Schenn

Yes, most but not all. Deficits add up over time. And this PO run is not only compressed, but is absent all the usual travel days. There's very little time to recover between games.

It's not just water too. Hockey players have been known to lose muscle and fat over the course of a season. That's part of why they spend so much time bulking up over the summer.

This was my hypothesis at the beginning of the season. Ehlers for Ghost. We’re lucky to have a defenseman expendable in order to land a scorer of his level. And let me preface this by saying that in DO value defensemen first. You work from the goal forward. Defense is pivotal. Scoring comes after. However, I think a deal could be made.

Of course, that’s saying I think York and/or Zamula are potential legit NHLers. At least one will be, I believe. Possibly both.

Frankly, we’re lucky to have 7 NHL defensemen. The fact that we can rotate Hagg and Ghost is not a feature every playoff team possesses. Many would have to rely on an AHLer with promise, and cross their fingers.
