Least culpable does not mean blameless, does it. Once Myers loses position and is a half-step behind, he opens up a lane for taking the puck hard to the net. Hagg, who till that time was in neutral position, starts to lean forward in anticipation of having to come between CB and goal. That's his undoing. Here it is, 0.5 seconds before goal.

- PT21

Clearly, I placed blame on multiple players. It was actually Thompson who lost position on Clutterbuck off of the wall. Haag stood there and neither cut off the pass or covered the back door which is his responsibility.

Suddenly, Clutterback turns his back towards the goal and makes a no-look pass to Brassard, who till then is lurking well behind the goal line. That's 100% a set play. A great play by Hagg would have been to be alert to the pass and get a stick on it. But he was the 3rd or 4th line of defense there. That's asking too much from a guy like him.

- PT21

There are no set plays in an offensive zone cycle. It is ridiculously incorrect to state that asking Haag to cover his defensive basic responsibilities of covering the back door is asking too much of the player.

Bill,

I will never understand this recent fixation with D-men creating offense, and that being so very critical. Its a sought after skill set, sure but not at the expense of being dependable on defense. The latter must come first. Else, we might as well have 18 forwards be the skaters.

Hagg, imo, is playing for the same reason Nate is playing. They have a limited set of skills, but they are reliable within that. It makes it easier for Coaches to game plan around a limited but solid set of skills, than a larger set of skills which are much less dependable.

- PT21

You cannot win with a 3 forward attack in the NHL. You cannot win without strong and quick puck movement from the defenseman in transition offense. Why do you think 2 way puck moving defenseman are in such demand in the NHL. D men creating offensive rushes off of transition and playing well in a 5 man offensive attack is absolutely critical to an NHL team.

Man I can only imagine what that game would have been liked played in front of fans.

My guess is the fact that we have had no word on Coots isnt a good thing.

The emotional side of me says "it would be awesome to OL step into that spot, lead the team on the ice and everyone battles to a win because of his being there!"

The engineering side of me says "throwing him into a playoff series probably isnt the smartest move."

Also I cant think of a better fourth line in the modern NHL then what the Isles have.

They could always negotiate an extension prior to the QO.

Don't the bubbles rules basically state you can only say whether he is playing or not?

If it's a one way deal for multiple years, with a flat cap for 2 years, probably.

Read that Seravalli (sp?) had listed his 'most get riddables' list.
JVR is second and Ghost sits around sixth on the 'disposables'.
Frank deserves his pay by my POV.

But I've been wrong before.

Unless you are campaigning for a suspension. Then you can list the specific ailment.

Are they allowed to give an update with all the “unfit to play”? I can’t remember.

If Thompson is awful, why do you think the coach consistently uses him in heavy ice time in certain situations? It would not surprise me if the Flyers re-signed Thompson for next season.

IMO, cause they're lacking bodies, same reason Grant was on the 2nd PO unit in OT.

I am guessing he means that if Couturier was good to go, there was nothing preventing the coach from saying it. But it could be strategy. I consider it highly unlikely anyway.

He did take a shift after the hit. But its a 19 sec shift.

Btw, backreading, someone expressed concern about Farabee. He has many moderate to long shifts after the hit, including in OT, so guess he is ok.

Be fair, Islanders have been better team in the series against Flyers. But just imagine if Flyers scratch players like Thompson, Hagg, Braun, Grant and use players how Gostisbehere, JVR, Frost, Laughton in all playoffs. They would be much better. AV is a big problem for Philly.

Now Alain Vigneault should apologize to all players, fans and management for his terrible coaching in that game. Giroux with big game overally, Flyers deserved it more tonight. But if only they had better coach.

Coots took a shift after the hit? I didn’t know that. If his knee was absolutely torn up he couldn’t have done that I expect. I’m
Hoping he gets a knee brace and can come back

But if Clutterbuck goes hard to the net to which he has a pretty clear lane, and whacks away and gets it in and Brassard stays behind the goal and Hagg just keeps guarding the empty backend, I am sure you would have pilloried him for not making the right read.

I have no doubt those guys practiced that play. Brassard makes his rush as soon as Clutterbuck mysteriously turns his butt towards the goal instead of taking it hard to net.

My opinion alone of blame apportioning:

Myers:40%
Thompson 25%
Hart 20%
Hagg 15%

Would ge be willing to risk that with a very shortened off-season and a flat cap? I wouldn't.
