In some ways I'd like to see Nylander traded because people will be stunned at the return. Teams will line-up for him.

You can't be serious...Skinner has been in the NHL much longer...
- RogerRoeper

And?

He can score, scored more then Ovie and everyone not named Matthews or McDavid.

I’m talking last 3 years, I’m not talking about 2008 or something.

Skinner was outscored by Jason Spezza this year...700K vs. 9 million per.

1 year, good job Roger.

Did you read what I said? I said I liked him and he’s scored a ton BUT maybe he’s hit the wall, hoping not. FML

That contract is top 5 for worst in the entire NHL. It's funny how contracts on other teams are't seen the same as Leaf ones are.

Nylander at 6.9 was just the worst ever

I'm curious why some on these boards seem to think that Nylander is somehow under-valued by GMs across the league.

You would think a guy who is coming off the season he just had and going into next season with a base salary of 2.5M would be an attractive player? And let's be honest, Willie is an attractive player.

*ahem*

That's the thing, he's 24 and will make 2.5 in $$$$. Teams like Florida and Arizona will line-up for him. His value is massive.

Best to keep him 1 more year. With the extra TOI with Keefe, he can be a 80-90 point player ina full year.

Everyone says Kapanen's cap hit was "Great". Not really, what really made him valuable to the Pens is the 1.8 in $$$ he makes next year. Peanuts.

Leaf players making much less than their cap hits increaases their value.

You don’t even know that yet, he scored 40 goals last year in the 1st year of the contract. He may have hit his wall and be done but nobody knows yet.

Someone needs to educate these refs that they don't operate off of their own rulebooks.

Theres a code of conduct, and it expressly states that utilizing an alt to avoid a ban is unacceptable.

Do your job...

Wrong. He scored 40 entering his big contract summer. He's 28. 7 more years to go. Career high is 63 points. He likely never hits that again.

Nylander was 22 and had never scored less than 61 in a full year but oh my god what is Dubas thinking????

It is not impossible to think Skinner scored more than them at 5 on 5 for 3 years if you remove last season, which was horrid.

Skinner is a good player. I hate his contract, but the little bastard can score.

I don't think his value could be any higher than it is right now -- I mean, sure, you can gamble that he has a similar (or even better!) year in 20/21, but the Leafs desperately need a stud RHD.

Clear his salary for Petro.

I love Willie - I think his salary has suddenly become pretty fantastic... but if you can trade him for picks and clear cap space for Petro at 8-8.5M, you have to do it.

I'm not on board with signing RHDs who don't have the pedigree to play top pairing minutes on a Cup contending team.

Free Willie and land Petro!

He’s scored a lot almost every year.

It’s an overpay but let’s see what next year brings before calling him done.

True, could be wrong about the 5v5 numbers - I hadn't read that far back in the discussion.

Pretty awful value for a 9M $$ player thats for sure. In what world was he ever worth 9M per year until he is 35?

He had one amazing season(maybe 2 with the 37 goals), and while he was a good, he is not woth 9M. Look at this previous recent years. Not 9M consistency thats for sure.

2014-2015 77 18 13 31 -24
2015-2016 82 28 23 51 -2
2016-2017 79 37 26 63 -3
2017-2018 82 24 25 49 -27
2018-2019 82 40 23 63 0

It's a bad contract for a one-dimensional player, especailly for a team that has more holes than most.

For sure.

It was written in the stars he wouldn't live up to the contract the moment it was signed.

There are better players to invest 9M in.

Like Taylor Hall

with the Habs.

37 goals and 40 goals is pretty good I think, even 28.

Anyways, it’s an overpay but that happens lots to guys who score.
