Any deal that involves JJ out and Brodin in sounds almost too good to be true. Think Pens would need to add POJ or McCann to get it done.

I'd love to find a way to stack a trade that sends out JJ and brings back Brodin and Staal... any thoughts on what that would cost? Murray, McCann, Simon & POJ?

- MacPatty

I mean Rask would be their cap dump.

HNiC just showed a video montage of all the big Vegas forwards targeting dman Hughes, the Canucks TOI leader, with hit after hit...and I don't think Tanger would survive it hahah

I think it's a good strategy but you'll never see Sully employ that.

He fell off a cliff because he pouted. He didn't want to play 3c so his heart wasn't in it.

That was one of the most disappointing trades... I thought he was going to be awesome in the 3C role but he really was a baby. I feel better knowing it cost him millions of dollars on his next contract.

Yea he really was a POS for that. When we acquired him I believe Sid, Geno, Phil and Brass were the top 4 PPG in the playoffs currently playing and I was super excited. He was an entitled wiener.

Yeah, that one really set us back. I seem to remember he had a groin injury around the same time, too. I'm not sure if the whole thing was bad luck or if JR didn't do his due diligence, or a combination of the two.

Do you (or anyone else) know if GMs or other team personnel are allowed to talk to trade targets prior to a trade? Just typing it, it seems like a silly question because I doubt they are. But how can a team know if a target is going to be a pouty baby or if he is going to come in excited for whatever role he is given? Of course, if the player is a problem child, I'm sure the team trading him will try to conceal that.

Murray, Letang, and McCann were all listed on TSNs Trade board. Letang is the only surprise name on the board especially since it is TSN and not a rumor site looking for clicks.

I think everyone knows JR wants to make some big moves and Letang is the only really big piece the Pens have.

Also worth noting they have Laine and Ehelers on the list, and obviously both won't be traded.

Agreed. Also if we didn't trade for Kap, I would have loved to see if we could have put a package together for Laine.

Yeah GMJR is always ripped for that trade but I thought it was a good move at the time minus losing Cole. Who could have known Brassard would basically quit because he didn't want to be a 3rd liner.

I believe you can ask for permission, but it is mostly used when teams want to know beforehand if the player might sign an extension with them and what it would cost. Probably happened with Pageau.

Wow Laine is still only 22, that would have been a sick grab. That's a legit LW PP one timer threat. Hasn't he fallen off a cliff though?

No, just was injured. He also had a slight fall out with the organization because he wants to play with a better center

Sullivan was being a little female dog with Cole anyways. And this is coming off back to back cups more recently so Ruth wasn't going into question Sully I guess.

I guess they were not playing him with Schiefele? They have a lot of good wingers their and Schief is really the only great center they have. After him it's a big drop off.

What kind of winger (or C or D) would 15th overall, Hallander and Murray brought in I wonder....hmmm.

JR goes after Kapanen, who I like, but the forwards group was already pretty deep. Yes RW was the weaker side but the forwards on a whole were already pretty damn good. D is the bigger issue and he not only likes the D's biggest problem but also sees no problem with him.

I'm pretty scared of who he's going to sign to partner with JJ. Terrified, actually. hahaha

Still a 30 goal guy and has that one-timer, just doesn't look like the next dominant goal scoring wing anymore. He dies get picked on for his lack of all-around game though I want to say he showed improvement there. Kind of a younger version of Kessel.

I'd assume Winnepeg is looking to balance their team out and add a top defenseman. I'd guess someone closer to their core's age before Letang gets thrown out there.

Yeah, think they got over that but there was also an Ovechkin like issue where they dogged him about playing more defence and setting up plays rather than just trying to snipe.

I say screw that, get him on a line with Crosby and Guentzel and let him fire away. He might be a 60 goal guy with those two.

Pens didn't totally blow their wad on Kapanen. Problem is that Marino would have to be involved in the trade. Not sure the Pens can end up better after all is said and done.

If you offered them Marino, Rust and McCann I think they'd have a hard time turning it down. Just ends up being a cap time bomb the next year when Laine gets $9.5M per year.

Yeah, we knew he was on his way out, just thought we'd get one more run with Cole. The thing with Sully was stupid. Cole was great in that physical/PK role, and could play either side. And of course the domino effect of replacing him led to JJ.

That is dumb by the Jets, there's not many talents like Laine. However I wouldn't do that trade our defense is already weak. We need to strengthen it.we just are not good trade partners with the Jets.
