I think Debrincat was/is working on other areas of his game so much, that it took away from his sniping a bit?? Like puck protection/handling.

I like that he is trying to be a complete player, but at what point do you decide that you can't do it all, and decide to stick to the niche that got you there?

- ToewsdNKanefusd

There was an article recently (Athletic?) on how Cole Caufield is working on driving the middle, passing game, and other areas beyond shooting.

If DeBrincat is doing the same and it's just taking time for him to find balance to restore his goal output, then I'm all for it.

I do generally agree that it is still in the team's best interest to take advantage of DeBrincat as a goal scorer and surround him with linemates that can create space for him and get him the puck to pepper shots.

Lol...yes, great job Tyler, same AEL/Theo. Anything going on in rumorland boys?
- just69sayin

Nothing that I've read lately. If I hear anything I will share with y'all.

In full transparency, I'm not a hockey insider with industry connections. But I will do what I can to turn over every rock to find rumors, even the crazy ones.

Tell me again why it is a bad thing that a player wants to improve his overall game?

Dinky will be fine. Playing with Dach most of the season is also a contributing factor to his struggles. Strome being useless for much of the season didn't help.

Dach needs to improve his decision making to get it up to NHL game speed. Dach got better as the season went on but there is still too much one on one in his game.

BTW. Dinky was still on pace for a 50 point season in an off year for him. How many other 50 point players do the Hawks have beside Kane and Toews?

- Elbows15

I totally agree on what you said about Dach. A lot of times he plays like he's in a rat hockey game just taking the puck coast to coast, trying to dance around everyone in opposite jerseys instead of leveraging his teammates.

He's smart enough to learn that over time. Not worried in the long run.

Watching the /vancouver series, Hughes is no better than Bovquist was in the defensive zone. They give him free reign on offense (and play's #1 PP, so his stats look good, but he consistently was pushed off the puck and outmuscled in the defensive zone, and threw the puck away when pressured.
- LAHawk

Great observation. This is why I'm perfectly fine with Boqvist playing conservatively on offense to focus on his defense and all-around game.

Both he and Hughes have their learning curves but are skilled enough that they'll get there with physical maturity and more NHL experience.

I thought he was always in a good position just not strong enough
- BetweenTheDots

I would agree with this not on just Boqvist but also the other D prospects (Beaudin, Krys, even Carlsson who is pretty strong). They're actually good at knowing where to be but need to gain more strength to win the battles.

I got what you were putting down. Not many 19 year old are playing in the NHL. Just watching Boqvist's reactions after he makes a mistake leading to a goal tells me all I need to know about the kid. He knows when he has messed up on a play immediately.

He will work hard to improve.

- Elbows15

I see that, too. Some mislabel the expression on Boqvist's face as fear but I see it as affirmation that he knew he screwed up and is mad at himself.

There's a clip of Hughes in agony (teared up?) in Game 1 vs. Vegas. Then you see his teammate Sutter come over to encourage him. That expression looked more like fear.

To his credit, Hughes bounced back in the series as far as his compete. Still has a ways to go but love his resiliency. Boqvist, too.

Yep, the Hawks have to carry over $878K.
- EbonyRaptor

That was expected. Just over $1 million isn't bad, I was bracing for closer to $1.5 million.

Vegas has been all over Hughes, they've targeted the poor rookie and he's been a not very effective (at least compared to how he normally is).

I wouldn't gauge Boqvist (or Hughes) by his performance against Vegas, that team is so damn good.

Me either. He seems to be a quick study. I'm interested to see where the Athletic ends up ranking the Hawks on organizational strength.

As of now Pronman has them at least 18 or better and when he did the writeup at midseason, he wasn't including Dach who made the team.

That seems to be a go to for labelling facial expressions here.

Take care TC. Loved reading your articles on here. All the best.

Hey, Parker. Looking at your profile date, guessing you're a longer time reader, first time poster. Please post more! More perspectives from new contributors is great!

Your last name reminds me (Johnny Lawrence from Karate Kid), for those who haven't watched it yet, but the Cobra Kai series on Netflix is pretty good. Started binge watching it over the weekend.

Have heard that from a few people. Right now trying to back watch the first season of Umbrella Academy...saw the second and really liked it.

That’s okay Theo, we’ll just take your analysis and Hawks insight, you can always make up rumors, like the guy before Tyler.

My wife and some of my friends love Umbrella Academy. She also started watching Lucifer.

Both are interesting but I half watch as I do other things around the house so I just need to sit down and actually watch with full attention.
