The rumors of Pegula wanting to pay big for a UFA suggests the internal cap theory is bogus.

I agree with the 'lean' thing being overblown at this point. However, they did it to themselves. I know you won't admit it, but it's factual.

Perfect, lets keep bringing in decrepit vets.

2015 called to remind the Sabres that their interest in Simmonds and Hornqvist should have been expressed in 2015.

Mccan - I actually kinda like him, wonder what the fancy stats say. Could he be a third line Larry?

Murray
Bjustead

Load it up! Is there room from jack
Johnson? They can’t stand him in Pittsburgh!

- Gr8daygo

He had his best season by quite a bit this past season, which makes sense as he is 24 now and he was playing behind both Crosby and Malkin.

He was strong defensively during the 19-20 season, and was below average offensively except he outperformed his expected goals by a good margin.

He received 61% offensive zone starts this year.

He averaged 30 seconds of penalty kill time per game and roughly 90 seconds of power play time per game.

He had 28 even strength points (12 goals and 16 assists).

His points per game of 1.99 ranked 94th out of nearly 600 players.

His points per game was a bit over his career high from 2 seasons ago with the Panthers.

He ranked 230th out of 600 players in 18-19 (1.5 rate) and he ranked 98th out of 600 players in 17-18 (1.93 rate).

Looks like he's a fine 3C, as long as they have a strong 2C, however, it is important to note he is an ARB. eligible RFA, and these are his 2 most likely next contract predictions per Evolving Hockey:

34% - 2 Years @ $3.2M per
26% - 3 Years @ $3.5M per

With that factored in, he feels like a less defensively capable, better shooter offensively than Larsson.

He is either a very small upgrade over Larsson, or a net neutral overall.

I'd like to think the Sabres can do better, especially if McCann is going to get $3M per on his next deal.

McCann is more than fine as a 3rd liner.

Murray I'm afraid of.

He's a minor upgrade over Larsson, if any upgrade at all when you factor in his next deal.

As you said, they can probably do better.

But without knowing what we're sending back to Pitt, it's tough to say.

I know this is funny due to yesterday's convo, but I'm pretty sure he's another hybrid W/C who hasn't been a consistently good C
I Like him as an add though

I don't like him, based on his likely next deal.

McCann at $2M or less? Sure. McCann at $3M per? No thanks.

They can do better.

He played 18% of his even strength time last year with Crosby and Malkin, but the rest looks like he was the Center.
