like having a 1 eye goalie on the roster playing because you don't have cap space to put a third goalie on the roster due to having all those right shot d men?
- navinrjohnson

why they held on to Bogo for so long to eventually just cut him is beyond my grasp.. shop him around find out no one wants him and cut him in early november

LTIR has repercussions as well. It's not as simple as a "get out of jail free" card. Im pretty sure Lunaion is the only one who actually understands it in full though, so I'm not even going to pretend I understand the nuances.

The bottom line is cap guru put us at a competitive disadvantage to acquire frolik, and now we have to creatively account our way out. Services = missed

LTIR is not a "get out of jail free" card, but it still can be used to your advantage if used correctly.

It's like debt in the real world. To most of us in the middle class, debt is literally and figuratively a four-letter word. However, most people who became rich (other than ones who inherited wealth) used it to their advantage...unless your name is Dave Ramsey.

My guess is that they figured they had nothing to lose by letting him return from injury to play because he already had no value. Then he demanded a trade. I'd say, at THAT juncture, you demote him. Not to say letting him go a long time ago would have been a better idea.

Just like the Sabres since Eichel arrived. If they get competent work from Adams, maybe it'll finally come to fruition.

Why did he need to avoid something that doesn't really hurt him this season?
- buffalofan19

If you can avoid setting $100 on fire, it's a good idea.

If he doesn't trade for Frolik, there is no overage this year.

There was no reason to trade for Frolik, and not only did it hurt the team on the ice last year, it is affecting their cap this coming season as well.

There's definitely an alternate universe where we didnt chant to get Darcy Regier fired and he navigated through the tank and came out of it in 2018

Playing Bogosian over any other defenseman after he requested a trade was one of many mind bottling moves last year.

Right, but his mistake was thinking Michael Frolik would improve this roster this past season, not deferring the bonuses. If he acquires a different player at the same price point, of which there are plenty, and he helps the team improve in the win column, we're not having this conversation. His downfall is personnel evaluation, not cap management.

No there was a few. They needed forwards and Frolik historically was a solid player on a down year. He took a gamble he’s return to form. He also was still a good PK’er and our PK sucked.

It didn’t work out

Won't even bother with what-ifs post Darcy. Hell, he could have held onto one additional player that would have cost us Eichel. But his drafting is what caused the Sabres to tank in the first place.

Kinda what I've been ranting about this morning. You made it nice and tidy here.

I get 19's position on "does it actually matter", but I still think, it could have actually mattered, on the ice. Financially, it has potential to matter.

Can’t wait to trade for another goalie who can’t stop a beachball.

So much for our analytics movement

That's true. But I do think if the Sabres kept Darcy until TDL 2016, we would have made the playoffs by now, and probably wouldn't have hired the river boat gambler or the situation. He was the steady hand needed at the time.
