seriously? What qualifications does he have besides playing 356 career NHL games, he had 21 goals & 28 helpers for a whooping total of 49 points, all playing as a bottom 6 forward.

what is Ellis going to do, take top end talent and how them how to be plugs? Coach up our 4th liners?

I am sick of bringing in ex-players for team jobs, including the decision to hire Kevin Adams for the GM job.

This team is a mess from top to bottom.

4 simple moves fix the team short term

Hutton and a 5th for Rinne or Bishop
Montour for Bennett
sign Brenden Dillon
sign Carl Soderberg

fringe playoff team right away

You could put the same roster out there and swap Khudobin with Hutton and they are a fringe playoff team.

When you are a strong defensive team and can’t get the saves it craters you.

agreed

stars gotta sign him now, don't they?

can't go back to bishop after benching him for the playoffs

bishop was 10th in gaa and save % for the regular season

I would do our 8th for Monahan straight up. Jack and the rest of the team need to see a real commitment to winning now - not in 2 or 3 years. Not to mention the fan base. Throw Mitts in and add Bennett. Or sub out Mitts and trade out one of Montour/Risto. Go crazy.
- SabreWest

Agreed. It would do wonders for team morale i imagine

cut yeldon and you are only in for 2.5 mil in salary difference

cheap insurance option

side note I still think tampa claims him anyhow

- navinrjohnson

Tampa has zero cap room i believe
When do we find out if he was claimed?

And yeah...
Yeldon sucks, but i don’t think Fournette would be happy splitting carries 3 ways
Don’t think he’s worth the potential headache

That could be interesting

Kinda wish i didn’t draft Kamara in one of my leagues
But of Tampa can figure out how to squeeze Kamara in under their cap, he could be a stud
there too

If the Sabres does not have Steve Valiquette and his company on retainer as a consultant, they are missing the boat big time...errr... I mean missing the super yacht big time.
Especially if they are intending on remaining lean in Analytices compared to other teams.

Great read on The Athletic about what he us seeing in the Playoffs...and other things.

He probably is but he needs to be on the 3rd line and earn it
- GERBE!!!75PTS

This is fact...same way Dach started the year and then worked into the 2C role. They can't throw Cozens to the wolves right off the get go. I still think Bonino is the ideal pick up for 2C...a vet on a one year 4.1M contract who can help Cozens learn the ropes. JMO

probably based on this

https://montrealgazette.c...nadiens-appear-to-be-over

- navinrjohnson

There was also an article from the Athletic that Vogl was referring to by Marc Antoine Godin

On the way out
Max Domi, 20 percent he stays

Let’s be clear, Max Domi is a very good hockey player. He had some highs and lows this season and he didn’t exactly shine in the playoffs like we might have expected, but that is no reason to make Domi some sort of scapegoat.

Centres with his speed who have put up 72 points in a season should have a certain value. Sure, Domi’s inability to reproduce that season a second time plays against him, but two other factors make him a prime candidate to be traded.

First off, as a restricted free agent with arbitration rights, Domi is exposed to a) a tense relationship with the Canadiens if his case ever winds up in arbitration or, b) committing long-term to the Canadiens to try and cash in on his best season. In either case, the level of confidence of both sides doesn’t seem all that high and the climate doesn’t appear ripe to a long-term arrangement. Another team, however, might be more willing to dive in with Domi, especially if they have their own contract headache to deal with.

The other factor is Domi’s position.

Claude Julien said last week that the organization sees Domi as a centre. And it makes sense. Domi is much more effective using his speed to carry the puck through the middle of the ice than he is glued to the boards as a winger. Over the last two seasons, Julien managed to get a defensively responsible winger by his side to take care of some of the work needed deep in the defensive zone that Domi is less inclined to handle.

The problem is that Kotkaniemi’s emergence in the playoffs will surely entice the Canadiens to find a place for him at centre next season, which essentially condemns Domi to play on the wing.

Julien also mentioned he was disappointed to see Domi shoot less this season than during his big year two seasons ago. That’s a bit debatable. Domi averaged more shots on net this season than the prior season (2.52 per game versus 2.48). There was a slight dip on the power play, but nothing major. Domi might have been shooting from further out this season, but more than anything, Domi was missing more shots from closer in this season.

Look at his shot locations from the last two seasons thanks to Micah Blake McCurdy’s graphs. The blackened icons represent shots that missed the net.

Want to know the big difference between Domi’s first and second seasons in Montreal? In 2018-19, Domi had a ridiculous run of 11 goals and 11 assists in 17 games from Oct. 17 to Nov. 21, 2018. Over that hot streak, Domi put 37 shots on goal, giving him a shooting percentage of 29.7 percent. It is typical of a hot streak, but also unsustainable over an entire season. If Domi had produced at an average rate over those three weeks early in his first season, his production that year would not have been much different than it was this season.

“I just found that this year he didn’t shoot as much,” Julien said. “He likes being more of a playmaker than a shooter, but I think if he makes that little adjustment he could get back on track.”

To summarize, the Canadiens prefer Domi at centre but don’t have room for him at centre, and they hope to see him shoot more even if that goes against his natural instincts as a player. Oh yeah, and all that led Domi to start the playoffs centering the fourth line.

Again, does this seem like fertile ground for a long-term relationship?

Danault is the perfect fit here.

Everyone else talked about on here lately is all dependant on price.

If it takes 8 to get Monahan that hurts us more than helps us.

- Pegullaville

Listening to a Montreal fan in that article by Marc Antoine Godin in the Athletic the only positives he said about Danault was winning faceoffs and PK. The negatives were can't control play, can't make a tape to tape pass, no creative vision and can't even execute a sauce pass. He prefers they keep Domi

On top of the above, they want to permanently move the dates of the season from October - June to December/January - September.
