His closest comp is Kreider who just signed 7x6.5m and that was all UFA years they paid for. Something like 6x6 for mantha would be proper value.

Agreed on 6x6. Larkin territory

Just look at last year's RFA crop. Marner 6 x 10.9 and Rantanen 6 x 9.25

If you think Mantha is going to settle for $6M you're out to lunch.

Fabbri had 31 points in 52 games this year for Detroit. Acciari had scored 31 points in his entire career (180 games) when he signed his current deal, at age 27. He’s also never had more than 8 assists in a season and only got to 20 goals this year by doubling his career shooting percentage. At age 28.

I don’t want to bag on Acciari too hard since I actually think he's a decent player with a decent contract, but all signs suggest he’s a defensive forward who had a flukey year offensively.

He’s a bad example of a “cheap player who can score 30-40 points” (I wouldn’t be surprised if he never tops 25 again) and a bad contract comparable for Fabbri, considering when he signed his best season was only 14 points, and he only got to 30-40 point pace territory this year by basically tripling his career scoring rates — and Fabbri was still 50% more offensively productive per game this season as a Red Wing than Acciari was with Florida.

Similar deal with Ennis, who I think is also a good defensive forward who had a nice but very unexpected season offensively. Before he signed with Ottawa at the beginning of this season he had just 53 points 175 games over the past three years. I think if any GMs had expected him to be a “30-40 point player” this season there’s no way he would have signed for just $800k.

I agree with you that Fabbri is very replaceable and there are usually a handful of UFAs available every offseason that you can plug into a lineup and get similar results. But unless you get really lucky, $2.5 - $3 million is generally what they cost. Fabbri doesn’t have to fluke into 20 goals and 30-40 points like Acciari or Ennis. He has scored at or above that rate in all three NHL seasons where he’s played at least 50 games.

Looking at the upcoming UFAs that might be similar to Fabbri are: Ennis, Brassard, C. Smith, Haula.

Of these, Ennis will probably get less, Brassard is 33, he's either looking for a longer contract or going to a place to win. C. Smith and Haula, I suspect will cost more. That's 4 players for 31 teams, what's our chances of Detroit getting them without overpaying? None.

Sure there's going to be a few that will produce at that pace that no one thinks of but don't bet on it.

Fabbri is younger than any of them and has more potential too IMO.

You're right, they both dish whereas mantha finishes.
I'm not comparing point totals because as good of a player as Larkin is, he's surely not in the same class as Mack or Matthews.

You've got your opinion and I've got mine, we'll see what happens but unless you've got something other than taunts I've got no reason to change my mind

Yeah, and Marner played 16 more games to score that one less goal. Listen, I'm not saying he's AT their level, but he's close to it, and that's why he's going to $8M. Time will tell, until then, go pound sand.

I get that JR is trying to win the Pens another Cup before Sid and Geno retire. But in my opinion Kapanen isn't worth a #15 overall pick. Especially in this draft. #15 this year is top 10 in most other drafts in my opinion. Kapanen is a decent winger but I hate this trade for Pittsburgh.

It’s a terrible deal for PIT so I like it a lot.

Now that JR has struck the early trade season with Toronto.......Does Stevie mak e an early deal with JR or wait .......
Seems like JR wants to rid himself of JJohnson(3 x 3.25M).....is he worth acquiring if Murray comes with the deal pre-signed at $3M x2???? (UFA after 1 yr, really need a 2 yr deal here) Does it only cost DRW a 3rd (Oilers)

PIT no longer has enough assets to consider bringing in the waste that is JJ.
