Tkachuk isn't putting up 5v5 points either, and Gaudreau had 9 points in 11 games when he was a little kid in his first scary playoffs.
Tkachuk drawing penalties is effective because Gaudreau is cashing in on those opportunities. The amount of hate the fanbase has for Gaudreau is absurd and disgusting. You'll make excuses all day for Tkachuk while throwing Gaudreau under the bus every time because he doesn't bash with people. Gaudreau also finished even this playoffs, so they weren't giving up goals 5v5 either.
They need both the the Gaudreaus and the Tkachuks.

5 of those 9 came on the powerplay, and in *19* playoff games since then, he's put up 2 even strength points.
It's not hate, it's pragmatism - Johnny doesn't get much of anything done in the playoffs, and if you actually watch the games, apart from a few 5 v 5 shifts, he looked totally lost and afraid out there. There's also the fact that, because it's the lone facet of his game, he's EXPECTED to score. It's really all he's out there to do.
Tkachuk produces in 1000 different ways, and frankly, 5v5, he's put out there to shutdown the opponents top line, especially in the post season. I look to him less to produce and more to draw penalties, defend, get the top line of the opponent off their game and get guys running around looking for him.
Trade Johnny - use the assets to build your prospect pool and/or D corps, sign Hall and you come out even, if not way ahead depending on the return for #13. That's asset management.
You need the Johnny's to get you there, you need the Tkachuks to get it done. Will trade Johnny 1000 times before I touch Tkachuk, because there are tangibles and intangibles there that you don't get with #13.
As for the +/-... sure. He wasn't scored on. Because teams threw out their 4th lines to grind him to the wall, not score. And btw, he was -2 against Dallas, the "actual" playoffs. Playing against Corry Perry and crew most of the time.
