Trotz was hired aftre the 13-14 season. After that, they lost in playoffs to Rangers, and then twice in succession to the Pens, though they were favored to win the last 2 series and had home ice.

Then they defeated the same Pens and the rest is history.

The same coach appeared 3 years earlier, and was there during disappointing exits and leads lost in playoff series before he broke through.

That's what I mean. People are thinking this is a weak team that just has gotten hot. They played 2 games less than us, and had 6 less wins.

The biggest difference is they did not have as hot a streak as us in 2020. And they beat us during that hot streak, btw.

Edit I realize what you said. But I disagree in thinking them winning was an anomaly. Especially when last year a team in last place turned things around to win the Stanley. That’s more of an anomaly to me. Other wise you can just say who wins each year unless they are in first place all year, is an anomaly. If Trotz has stayed. I think they would be in a much better position. And again they were a playoff team.

I understand what you are saying but Ovechkin, in spite of his amazing goal scoring, has long had a rap against him that he comes up short during important games. Look at his record in the Olympics and WCF, for instance. And those playoff series strengthened the rap of that rep.

I am glad he was able to break through. He was a fiend in 2018 playoffs. He played in a way he never has.

All I am saying is that team has reverted to type.

Coach failed in years 1-3, succeeded in year 4, failed in years 5-6.

I’m afraid the 76ers won’t be great for some time. It’s wild to think how different this year could have been. We tried to put a bandaid on losing Butler but in reality there was no replacing him. We need a true scorer / gunner like Butler. If he stayed we don’t throw that awful contract at Horford and maybe even same with Harris. Just sucks. Seems we had an abundance of cap not long ago and now we’ll likely have to take bad trades
