there's not much difference in TOI between top6 and 3rd line. they often play the same amount of minutes at 5x5. the difference is in special units.
pretty sure a nice contract would allow him to accept his role a lot easier. plus playing at home, not negligeable.

There's a difference between playing with Gallagher/Tatar as oppose to Lehkonen/Armia

6.5 per, play 2nd line, suck offensively, new Jordan Staal
- AdamFrench

I was surprised to see that Danault's point total last year was more than Staal's career best. That guys potential after his first season really Staal'd

Now that's a way to find the (frank)ing door

You think he gets 45 points playing with Lehkonen?
- obie

I actually think Lehkonen would score more with a centre like Danault.

In pro fighting they often talk about how every fighter has to think he can beat every other fighter, otherwise what the (frank) are you doing fighting? My point is that just because a pro athlete "feels" they can do something...well...their feelings don't mean poop to me. It's like when a religious person says they have "faith". Get the (frank) out of here with that. Danault wants to be viewed as being able to do more offensively? Do more offensively. Otherwise be proud of what you are and excel as a beast defensive C

How many NHLers outside of enforcers think..."Nah...I'm not that good...I might get you like...5-10 goals!"

Danault doesn't wanna lose his two 25 goal wingers in a contract year

Can't blame him.

And you know what, he might very well go back with Gallagher and Tatar. That line has been very effective for two years now. If KK/Suzuki slow down, we're going to see that line again.

But that's my point and why I don't care what they think. If you haven't done it yet and haven't shown signs you can do it then what the (frank) do I care how you feel about it?

yeah I agree as a coach or GM you're not gonna make decisions based on these comments, it just feeds this notion that Philip might feel unhappy in a more defensive role on the 3rd line...

Agreed. The hallmark of a professional athlete is ultra self belief. I'm sure some people have doubts etc. but 90% of them (even the mediocre ones) probably think they are gods gift to the earth in their abilities just to get to that level.

That's his right. Just as it's the Habs right to find players they think would excel best in the top 6. Danault doesn't like that? Be better than KK or Suzuki, or continue to excel as a shutdown C and be a valued member of your hometownish team

Double edged sword...it's also why a lot of guys don't achieve their potential...too full of themselves. It's also why guys like Crosby are so impressive. Always working to get better despite being the best of his generation

If he doesn't accept the role he can go... I have no issues with him in that role but they're not gonna hold Kotkaniemi and Suzuki back just to please him

Of course. If another team offers him the salary and the position he wants, I'll understand him leaving.

His future with the Habs will be him as a deluxe 3rd centre role or nothing.
