Lots of belly aching going on here. The deal is Kapanen for a 1st

Neither Lindgren or Hallander are can’t miss prospects, they’re easily a wash.
Rodrigues is a fringe 4th liner and everything else in the deal isn’t even worth talking about.

Kapanen has turned into a very reliable player, that can play on any line and was one of Toronto’s top PKers.
Im curious what everyone thinks the 15th overall pick is worth.

This is a fair trade.

There's no good news in this lol

A 1st + a decent prospect in Hallander for a decent middle-six winger and two schmucks? Ridiculous.

- Rinosaur

Not justifying the trade but Kap is behind Marner and Nylander.

Kap isn't even close to being worth a first. This is more clear fixation by JR on players he drafts.

The problem isn’t that we’ll miss Hallander. The problem is that we have other things to accomplish and don’t have a ton of assets to acquire them. The 1st and Hallander should have been traded this offseason, but this wasn’t a smart use of them.

I see a guy with back to back seasons of over 30 ES points on a third line. A guy whose pace puts him above 40 points a season while playing on a third line and no PP time. That's top 6 scoring already. And there are opportunities here to elevate that.

I'll agree they spent too much on a gamble that he can elevate. But I also think it MIGHT work.

We didn't need a top 6 winger?

Pretty sure it was a Top 6 Winger, A 3rd Pair D and a 3C

We have no idea what Hallanders value was around the league. Other GM's could have seen him as Just a Guy

I’m actually bullish Kapanen will be good here. My hang up is in a couple of weeks if better players go for comparable packages or comparable players go for lesser packages, this will be an unforced error in an offseason that really required us to be smart with asset use.

most likely you get a Beau Bennett type player at 15

would you trade Bennett a few years ago for a Kap like player?

He’s a middle 6 guy. It’s best to kill the idea of any hope now. Will do you wonders in the long run.

Is John Marino a legit NHL prospect yet?

Just a reminder, neither of us is all-knowing.

Hell no, I'm not for this trade. I just don't think he's a third liner. I see him playing with Geno and Zucker. And Rust up with Sid and Guentz. And Kap on the top PP

The only way this trade lives up to what they gave up is if Kap puts up 30+ goals /60+ points. That's what you give a 1st round pick for you. This is poop asset management.

Well a 15th overall's chances of being a NHL regular are pretty low... Kap is a proven NHLer now, with a great two way game, speed, scoring ability and great on PK.

So I guess it all depends on who's drafted with that 15th.

You didn’t need proven NHLers. You needed an impact player or cap space to sign an impact player. This is piss poor asset management no matter how you try to spin it.

On the surface, JR over paid. I still like KK and most likely this means Sheary will never torment the Penguins again which makes me very, very happy.

So top six is basically set.

My only regret with this trade is it would have been nice to have some capspace this offseason with a 2 season flat cap there could be a lot of players looking for short term deals and not a lot of money to go around

Might have missed out on some real value

- TheGame316

If he fills the RW hole, and you have to think that's why they gave up so much for him, 3.2M is much better than what you'd get in free agency.

Yeah, exactly. Very excited about Kapanen and I think he will be great here but it just feels like we jumped the gun and gave away our best trade chip.

Maybe a bit dramatic to freak out over the value, as the Pens got exactly the type of player they needed. I was just attached to getting a high level prospect back in the system.

Zucker-Malkin-Kapanen would be a great line!

I never said we didn’t. I’ve said a couple times on this thread that Kap fills a need and have pushed back on people saying he doesn’t. If Hallander didn’t hold value we’re (frank)ed either way I guess, but he was still our most valuable expendable prospect. If we’re giving up our top to futures for a player, you’d hope itd be someone who’s better than Kapanen and can definitely be a high end contributor. Now we’re left with almost nothing to get a 3C and Kapanen could very well not solve our PP issue or elevate much higher than he’s already shown at Toronto.

Also we shouldn’t be spending assets on 3rd pairing D. They are super easy to find and every time we try to trade for one or spend significant cap space on one it ends in disaster. We need to stop the ground hog day farce of trying to acquire this mythical “high end third pairing guy” and just role with effective cheap options.

Bennett would have been a decent player if he didn't fall apart if the wind blew the wrong way.

It's also so hard to say what you'll get a 15. No draft is equal.

Yeah we're pretty close I'm less sure on Kapanen but think there's a good chance it works. Agree it was too much capital because Pens are taking a risk.

If you could automatically expect to get a 30 goal player on a $3M per year contract for a first rounder every team outside the top 5 would make that trade.

I was initially disappointed with the trade but at the end of the day it is a bit of an overpay for a player I really like who will be a great fit with the team. Ciuld be worse.

kahun and pick 15

or kap

thought it was a simple question

I'll dumb it down for you next time I want to ask a question

...your attempt at trolling is pretty weak. Plenty of others you could watch on this board to get better.

Not sure why a Buffalo fan is here trolling.

i gueess it's a pretty good reflection on your team when you're here talking smack about a trade at the deadline where you traded us 2 useless UFA/RFAs and we traded you one useless RFA.

Or are you suggesting without Rodrigues, this deal wouldnt have happened and we'd still hav Kahun and the 15th pick?

The five stages of grief are:
denial.
anger.
bargaining.
depression.
acceptance.

Damn we are already getting to acceptance?
