Saw another crazy proposal on a Calgary board.

Pittsburgh
Sean Monahan C
Johnny Gaudreau LW

Calgary
Evgeni Malkin C
Matt Murray G

It was actually an interesting thought. I dont like it since we have way to many LW, plus Gaudreau is very undersized and didnt play well during the offseason. I also think Malkin is a better talent currently even though he is a bit older. It was interesting though if they were to get a Malkin proposal.
The fan said was putting other trades up and was proposing they sign Hall as a LW and make a run at multiple cups in the immediate future.

Saw an interesting trade proposal.

Minnesota
Hornqvist and Murray

Pittsburgh
Zuccarello (with money retained) and Greenway

Not sure we would want Zuc due to his age, but it does seem interesting. Zuc I could see being a good RW option on the top line and I think he would fit well with Sid and Guentzel. Greenway is a great replacement for Hornqvist is big, tough, and still is very young with the potential to get better. Doesn't really help our d, but if we resigned McCann and E-Rod would probably make a solid forward group.

I'd take Hornquist over any of Zuc and Greenway, let alone Murray. Just not interested in Zuc at this point, a couple years back I was, but i think he's not what he once was.

Well Malkin isn't going to have Calgary on this trade list, so a bit of a moot point.

That said, I'd love to get Monahan. Gaudreau would be great too. Pens just don't have tons to offer unless Calgary is doing a rebuild.

Burke just said on the broadcast the Canucks have had a Calder Trophy finalist 3 years in a row. That's pretty damn good. Wonder how many times thats happened... and what the record is for consecutive years with a Calder finalist...Pens had 3 in 2 years

What do you guys think of signing Erik Haula the Center from Florida? He seems like that perfect under the radar type of signing that JR would do. He has great speed, can play on the PK and PP if needed. It would make our 3rd line look a lot faster if we added him and moved McCann to wing. Plus if they did end up moving Hornqvist and getting another RW or putting E-Rod there, would make that line on paper look like one of the faster lines on the team.

I really like Huala but is he more center or wing? Think he plays both but I thought he was deployed more as a winger. Would be a clear upgrade over McCann for sure.

Most games I have watched for the Panthers he was at Center. I know he can play both, but then again so could McCann. The move also could potentially make McCann expendable in a trade as well, which until your upgrade statement I had not thought about. Which would allow Adam Johnson or Lafferty to be in the LW spot.

I will say I like how majority of Huala's goals are rebounds from him continuously crashing the net.

I would like to as well, but I have a feeling JR will shop him pending his contract demands.

Huala's got a lot of injury concerns, right? I saw he had a decent amount of points on PP so wondering where he plays. Not really a good possession player either so I'd have a lot of questions about him.

I don't think I'd put Lafferty or Johnson in the starting line-up. Johnson is actually an UFA so don't know that he'll even be around.

He has had some injury concerns the last few seasons. He showed a lot more confidence when playing with Vegas. I feel he wasn't expecting the trades to Carolina or Florida. I think I would agree his recent injury history is concerning, but I think he shows a similar drive like Tanev which I think is what we need on our 3rd line.

I swore Adam Johnson was still an RFA? I could be wrong. I am hoping he gets a chance with the Pens last year, and I feel his injuries also limited him this past season. Lafferty is such a hard player to figure out. In the AHL he was in consistent, but when he is skating fast and with confidence he is unstoppable. I hope he ends up gaining his confidence and maintaining his consistency with the Penguins.

Capfriendly says Johnson is a group 6 UFA. They should clean out some forward spots since they'll add 4 or 5 new forwards, but maybe since he made the bubble they still have plans for Johnson

Same! That would be nice to have another head coach behind the bench with Sully.

Also I didnt know about Johnson. That would be sad to see him leave and catch on with another team. Definitely hope he is in our plans, but also wouldn't be terribly surprised if he wasn't
