Looking back at Legare's draft profile:

"Legare was a top player on one of the best teams in the CHL. The best way to describe him is he’s a power play weapon. He lines up on the left circle typically and creates so much havoc from that spot. First, he’s got one of the best shots in the draft. He’s scored a lot of goals this season wiring a shot from long distance off a post/crossbar or blowing it past a goalie."

"NHL scout on Legare: “He plays a heavy game. He’s got that right-shot cannon he can launch from the circle."

Guess what Nathan....we've got a spot for you..

If he could be our righty on the top PP that would be sick. Even if he has to play in the bottom 6

Yeah that's more what I expect out of him. Might change with younger centers, but I think you want Crosby and Malkin's wings to do more of the hard work around them at their ages. Hornqvist's roster spot seems ideal: bottom 6 scoring RW with PP time.

But hopefully he ends up top 6. A younger Malkin could have carried him well (Sykora, Neal, Kessel) so maybe they'll find some younger play-drivers and can let him just be a sniper.

If you really look closely at who the Penguins have been drafting or signing as free agents...it's a whole lot of power forwards

Poulin
Legare
O'Connor
Bjorkqvist
Lafferty
Angello
Zohorna
Hallander
Caulfield
ZAR

Potential for an exciting camp this year, I'm trying not to get too excited. I guess intriguing would be the word I'm looking for haha.

I think if I was GM after the last two playoffs Id invite Sid and Geno into my office (or video conference the same time), ask them what they honestly truly think needs to be done for them to maybe get back to promise land one more time and actually listen to them. These guys know whats up.

Power play weapon with right handed shot....one of the best shots in the draft...

With the old school boys club mentality the Pens currently have in the GM and coach position I can just see them sending these guys back down another year because not enough experience.

What happened on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar team this past season for Legrare to drop down to 71 points in 61 games with a -24 from 87 points in 68 with +34 the year before hahah

EDIT: 105 points in 66 games Ivan Chekhovich (drafted 7th round by Sharks) wasnt there last season for one....

I'm hoping they give some of these guys a chance. Legare sounds like his skill set is exactly what the Pens have been missing.

If they get to the trade deadline and the young guys aren't panning out there will be plenty of rental options. Just make sure you give them more than an 8 day tryout.

Yeah he lost one or 2 of his linemates. Got better as the year went along, but he was the 3rd wheel finisher on that line.

I'd go with intrigued. I don't really expect most of these guys in Pittsburgh to start the year besides maybe Poulin and POJ. I'll be very interested in how WBS does. Hopefully Hollander joins as well. There's not really a standout prospect besides POJ slated for WBS, but a bunch of interesting guys who could play one day and I'd include Reilly in that rookie class.

Not everyone needs to skate like the wind. If he can mostly keep up, have an ovi like shot, and play like a bull in a china shop I’m pretty interested. Just need a good enough coach to get guys to play to their strengths.

Did JJ sewer his 2020 season also?

Phil stopped giving a poop. Its fairly simple.

- MacPatty

Do you blame him, with having to constantly be on the ice with JJ ?
Its funny people complained about the 5v5 production of Kessel and Malkin, yet their PP numbers were on par with their normal output. The difference? JJ doesnt play the power play! And he probably didnt give a rats you know what this year because that team isnt very good.

Dude JJ (frank)ing sucks, enough. Like he's (frank)ing a never has been. Don't even bring up Malkin and JJ in the same sentence, Geno has done so much and scored so much in helping bring 3 cups here. And Phil was awesome and a huge part of our back to back cups. 303 points in 328 games. You clearly never played hockey and had to play with the terrible guy, it sucks.

What I'm getting at is I'm not sure he even kind of keeps up and that can hold him back. I'm interested, his ceiling is higher than anyone's in the system, I just see a lot of questions with Legare.

I can't remember from preseason how is skating looked. I mean I didn't think he was slow, any one else remember?

Other than Marino, I thought Legere was the best prospect in camp. His skating is awkward, but I agree, you don't always need to have Hags wheels to be an effective player.

To me, he looked great setting up shop and ripping the puck with an elite shot. He was tough to knock off the puck. Seemed like guys couldn't get around him to interrupt his shot. We need this kind of player. Watching all this playoff hockey and you see other teams driving to the net to score goals.

Kind of excited to see a couple of these guys in camp. I fear Sully won't allow them to make the team 'cause he likes some of the stiffs we have.

It was kind of an awkward stride....ugly even. It would be a deal killer if he wasn't so tough on the puck. Plus his shot is sick. I didn't think he was super slow or anything, but his role will be to find space and rip shots. He seemed to make his own space.

No doubt I def agree. But if we were all wanting an old Kovalchuk on a cheap contract then there’s no harm in Légaré. Obviously kovy was a known and previously successful commodity but I’m sure a 19 yr old Légaré can’t be too much slower than nearly 40 yr old kovy haha.. god I hope not anyways.

Oh well I mean at least we do have some interesting options looking at this years camp. Better than how we were looking say Jan 1st.

Neal wasn't the best skater either, maybe we have something with Legare.

This is true, Kovy was a powerful skater in his day but he doesn't look like that anymore haha. They have to give Legare a very good look just for the fact he's one thing this team desperately needs.

I was actually one of those who didn't want to add Kovy, but that's more about getting younger. Kovy looked rejuvenated early, but he ended up getting just 1 total shot in 5 games against the Isles so I don't think he'd have helped beat the trap. 1 assist in 8 games if you include the round robin.

But yeah, should at least be some guys worth watching if nothing else.
