I made a similar assessment on monahan but apparently he had 8pts in 10gp. I wasnt impressed visually from what i watched. If it takes 8OA or cozens forget about it. Im probably not moving cozens for anything

But we must ask how much of his success is because of gaudreau, and would playing behind eichel make that a wash? He has essentially been a 30/30 guy his entire career

- ieetbred

Sticking him with Skinner would probably help him look respectable. Hell, maybe he's better. No one can definitively say one way or the other.

And can someone start another thread for the political conversation, I’m pretty sure this is a form for crying about the Sabres
- lulags

This is all Mike P's fault. Mike, do you think if you start a new thread talking politics people will actually talk hockey? You think a guy with the username of the greatest sabre ever (this side of Hasek) would post once about hockey?? Is that asking too much?

Roughly 1/3 of his career points have been on the PP. That is interesting because he surely wont see the same PP time here

He plays in the net front/slot on the PP which I actually think would work in Buffalo since we have Eichel/Dahlin/Olofsson at the top of the umbrella

Perhaps he’d look better in a 2C role then as a 1C in Calgary but he’s a trigger man like Skinner. I don’t know how they would work together but maybe it could work, tough to say

He's big and fast and prob would work well with Skinner. He had an off year, as did Johnny hockey.

What's his contract situation?

I definitely wouldn't trade Cozens for him and 8OA would be hard to send to CGY too. What would be CGY's asking price?

Tough to say what Calgary would be asking as they have really nothing behind Monahan down the middle that has 1C potential.

I also think they are looking to retool not necessarily rebuild.

Swap 1sts, Mittelstadt and Johnson for Monahan

I don't get many Flames games here, but I did see that Monahan took about 1,000 draws last year, whereas Lindholm and Granlund took about 800 each.

I'm sure they love Lindholm, so could Granlund be an option at 2C?

Buffalo is significantly closer to home than Calgary, obviously.

Did he specifically say Philly or NJ?

Hell no! I'm not dropping from the 8th overall to the 19th overall for a player that has played no defense so far in his career.

Monahan has exhibited no ability thus far in his career to play any defense, and that's a real issue.

Sign me up, twice.

What does it cost, though. Always loved his game from Carolina days

Seth Appert was on Instigators. Nothing eye opening, but it revealed some qualities about him and some of his thoughts. Interesting listen.

You get another level about how this organization is going to function, and to be totally honest, I think there's hope. They're targeting well rounded people with extremely similar philosophies about life and development.

One of the biggest things, and Adams reflected this, is that Appert specifically mentioned how he'd be filling out his staff with coaches with experience in areas he's unfamiliar with. I think it lends credence to amalgamation of the entire franchise.

It works for the Bills, and there's no reason it can't for the Sabres.

Crazy what happens when certain players are put into new environments and opportunities. Why every time you look at a guy, his performance on his old team must never be gospel to how he'll perform on a new team.

He doesn't play center anymore

He's been playing wing

Actually, just looked. He actually took 800 draws last season.

I didn't know either.

I'd defer to anyone who sees Flames games, but he took 800 draws last year (Ott is morning a center!), and if I'm the coach, I'm putting him at C.
