Take a look at the final 'press conference / interview' of Toews and Keith. While one speaks, watch the other's body language. Are these two on the same page? Each, to me, looks completely disinterested in what the other has to say.....

Markstrom hasn’t been looking good for the Canucks. O’Reilly has turned that series around for the Blues.

I think each was just letting the other answer the questions.

What pick do Hawks get? 16 or 17?
- Bhawks2585

Montreal 16 lowest winning % of teams in the top 16

Chicago 17, 50, 71 and I wold guess right now 78...102 133, and 164
https://www.draftsite.com/nhl/chicago/75/2020/

Except for the final four where I have changed the order to reflect
31 Colorado winning a CUP
30 Boston again the runner up
conference losers
29 Tampa B ay
28 Vegas

and the division winner who pick in the next 1-4 slots if they fell short of getting to the final four:

27 St.Louis
26 Washinghton

my list of 1 - 25 is ( I believe ) accurate....

I think that’s still TBD, but most likely #17. If Montreal goes on a deep run the Hawks could draft #16.

Has anyone got clarification on the Hawks 2nd round pick?

- DarthKane

A deep run would have to mean finally four 31 30 29 28

if any division winners go down early they select in 27, 26 and the next four if ALL are knocked out.

All the trades that are set and not conditional are on my DraftSite board for this years draft and next.

https://www.draftsite.com...es/2020-draft/#trans11206

The confusion for me right now is cap friendly has the 2-7 rounds as the same order as the first with the play in losers KEEPING those choice spots, and I cannot believe that will be correct since each and every other year the lottery only has changed the first round.

The NHL will not make formal announce oof where the picks are until all of it is over nd wikipedia hasn't even down an attempt to fill partial parts of the 2 - 7 rounds as they have in the past.

Please let me know if the order on the 2-7 on Cap friendly alters as right now they have that traded Pittsburgh to Vegas to Chicago pick in slot #46 minus 31 spaces the first round spot is 25 That on their board is VEGAS original pick)
On my board in the first round Pittsburgh has the #15 slot because they lost the play in to Montreal and creeped in as the last of the 15 lotto ball teams.

If there was no play-in the Pittsburgh draft spots is at 19 in all rounds but the first

They do not pick 31 picks later from slot 15 (46) because the draft SHOULD revert to the original winning percentages at the end of the shut down...slot 24 and 19 + 31 =
50.

He’s becoming a fantastic bottom 6 winger. Wish we didn’t give up on him so soon.

JC should give Dach a tape of Alex Tuch this series. You can't score if you don't shoot.
- LAHawk

Seriously. His youth showed quite often but is a 19 year old rookie. He’d be 3 feet from the goal in good position to fire at will and instead would pass it.
In reference to Quenneville playing - the fact that he was the option over Nylander just shows the lack of talent on the depth chart in order to contend. I thought he was terrible and made his line much worse. Not his fault tho as he shouldn’t have been out there. Constantly out of position, couldn’t keep up with his line, couldn’t handle a speed pass nor make one, etc. Didn’t throw the body all that much imo.
Hoping to see Crow back next season with either Subban or Lankinen as backup. Will be interesting to see how Seabs comes back.

Yeah, the Hawks sign him, give up draft picks and never scores two goals in a regular season game for them.

I don't see anything to read here than two guys who want to get these interviews over as quickly as possible and get the hell out of town.

I have watched several other 2-3 player interviews after losses they all look the same. One speaks then other just sits there. We all know Keith hates being in front of the mic and the press.

Of course they are. You can probably count on one hand, the amount of times something interesting has been said during a hockey presser.

So while one is giving the standard answer to a boring question, I can't imagine the other guy would be the least bit interested. Just sayin'...

Who's to day that he didn't? He had enough players for 2 adequate-to-above-average forward lines and 1.5 defensive pairings. Not to mention the only viable goaltender was just coming off of COVID.

I'm not a big Colliton fan, but anyone thinking that another coach would have made a notable difference is kidding themselves.

Yes, Colliton made the head-scratcher of putting JQ in and playing him a lot. Is that the reason they lost? No. They were completely overmatched top to bottom. No scheme, line combo or substitution would have changed the outcome. Maybe if all of those posts were goals, but even then with the way that Vegas plays, they would have still been overpowering the Hawks.

- Chunk

Adequate or scoring in spite of the challenges? Kane is so good that even with a little space and few opportunities he can make the most of them. Toews has proven that as well.

Another coach could have had them playing at least respectable hockey instead of chasing the knights around like a bunch of 7 year olds. Trotz or Tortorella would have had the team playing respectable, boring and trappy but at least respectable, hockey.

The post are irrelevant, when a team is controlling 60% of the shot shares they're probably going to win unless the goalie goes off in a crazy way. If the shots are limited to further away and the outside then maybe you can get away with it. If they're right in front of the freakin goal like the Hawks allowed (and that they allowed all season) then you're probably going to lose.

Torts may be an excellent coach - he seems to get the most out of his players and gets better results than perhaps they should.

But - he really seems to be an bumhole to the public - not recognizing that part of his job is to answer questions, talk to the press, explained what he and his team did or didn’t do aand why it worked or it didn’t.

In his very brief presser, he wad very short and annoyed on one question I saw, then didn’t like the next question and walked out.

He should get fined a lot for that. Be a stand-up mench - answer the questions like all of the other players and coaches, no matter how stupid they sound. Don’t go off and hide without taking responsibility for the results.

It’s hockey - it’s entertainment - it’s the fans that make it work.

- StLBravesFan

To be fair, a lot of the journalists ask him the same stupid questions so I don't blame him. It was a pretty dumb question to ask after the game. At least he seems to give a crap and want to win unlike the bozo behind the Chicago bench who is about as inspiring as my apartment wall.

If I am Stan Bowman I would take the long term view. Hawks are cap constrained until after the 2022/2023 season when Toews, Kane, DeBrincat and Keith's contracts come off the books. In the meantime you try to do the best you can with the draft and low priced free agent signings. Try to limit new contracts lengths to the 22/23 season. If some of the prospects turn out to be great then the timeline is accelerated. Position yourselves to have a young team and a ton of cash to spend in the summer of 2023. If Kane and Toews want to stick around and still have the skills you sign them at a fair price. By that time they will have not produced a cup in 8 years and be affordable.

Next years team will look a lot like the team that lost to Vegas. Keys will be:
- Seabs and Shaw health.
- Whether they can (or want to) sign Crow at a reasonable amount
- Suter, Mitchell

It should be interesting to see if they sign Caggiula, K4, and Subban.

I am hoping they let the younger players develop further at the Rock unless they scream I am ready for the NHL. (Hagel, Kurashev, Beaudin, Entwistle, Teply, Barratt, Morrison, Altybarmakyan, Regula, Krys, Kalynuk, Lankinen, Soderlund, Johnson.)

Well the message was sent prior to game time yesterday.

It isn't like the league wasn't aware that Nylander had great skill and recognition as an offensive generator
This is also a tale: so many kids with offensive gifts and teams just wanting it to be a swift transition to impact all around player like Florida trading Owen Tippett so freaking high as another example.

Scotty, this fair and balanced enough from 2016?

Smith should definitely be bought out. If you're looking to make changes on the backend Maatta could be moved. His play in these Playoffs will definitely attract attention from some team and they can make a trade.
- Savetheembers33

I'm a little late responding here. What would Maatta fetch in a trade, given his cap hit?

Dumb or not, it’s part of the coach”s job to answer those questions - he / she owes that to us, the fans, to answer the questions we can’t ask.

As I recall, the question he walked out on wax how living in the bubble affected the team - not a dumb question, I don’t think - he responded with something about not answering “touchy-freely questions”, and walked out. An arrogant “phuck you” response.
