In his seven playoffs he's played in he has been well below league average in GSAA in four of them. The two times he was above the average for the Leafs, the last two years, he has a propensity to allow bad goals at really bad times. For example, you could have a .925 save% for a game, but if you let a goal in from the corner or a really bad angle with 5 mins to go to lose the game, the saves you made before that one become meaningless. It's a tough position. But playing for the Laughs doesn't help him either of course.

that goal was bad. no excuse for not saving it.

but the line change that lead up to the goal was worse. that's on the whole team and coaching staff. inexcusable at the point in the game to have a mental error like that.

Yes, it was bad, but at the end of the day it was one guy on the goal line. One shot. And look, it's not the first time. The first overtime against Washington he lets in a lump wrister from the boards. He let in a non-screened point shot against Boston along the ice from just inside the blueline. He's let in several bad angel short side goals in the playoffs.

I agree the team sucks and have said since day one people should temper their expectations of Andersen because he came from a quality defensive club in anahiem at the time. A good team can win with Andersen, but he's UFA soon, and the Leafs aren't a good team. Move him.

fair. lehner looks like the only slightly realistic option for an upgrade.

otherwise, might as well trade andersen and hyman too. bring in some veterans for TDL trade-bait and re-stock for 2 years. Keep our 1sts this year and next.

Yes. And probably could do it now...but doubtful after we fix the D and his record is better.

I would find a platoon option. It does a lot of teams good. Go with the hot hand.

Side note: Is Fleury not the best teammate ever? He's a HOF goalie and twice now has put the team first and plays lights out when he does play during these situations.

Sad watching such a great caliber goalie be ridiculed and his accomplishments belittled.
Also an underrated leader.

Can’t believe you can watch Toskala, Raycroft, Scrivens/Reimer and Gustavsson and have the audacity to question Andersen.
The core is not enough to even get a round robin win to enter the playoffs, yet, Andersen has to be Vezina level just to go 7 games in a playoff series? And then pushed to the side after losing the last game?
And he’s someone you’re willing to send off?

Are you trying to create a new record for a core that literally never passes the first round, in some cases not even passing the round robin, because Andersen is a huge reason why many playoff series’ that have occurred actually ended up going seven games and let you guys have a chance to win?

Not even trolling just genuinely curious as to where Nylander, Marner and Tavares get a full write off meanwhile another guy who backstops you to a fifth game and plays extremely well is disrespected and taken for granted?

- optimus-reim

I agree fully with this but promise you there are a few in here that think Andersen is THE problem....some even think he's the ONLY problem.

Leafs would have a 0.00 GAA if Andersen did his (frank)ing job.

Leafs aren’t re-signing him anyway.

Three-way trade:

To Toronto: Sam Bennett, Matt Murray
To Calgary: Freddy Andersen, Dominik Simon
To Pittsburgh: Travis Dermott, CGY 2020 2nd, EDM 2020 3rd

Who says no? No one. Suck it.

This is great logic.

If we keep moving on from our good players because the bad players fu3k things up, we will never win a Cup again.

We finally get out of the dreaded revolving door of goalies and everyone wants to go back in?? We finally get back a solid back up to compliment Freddy and people want to fu2k that up??? You really want to trust Dubas & Co with goalie selection? See McIll vs Hutch/Sparks?!?!?!!?!?

Forwards, good at O bad at D, bad at working hard/hitting.
Defense, sucks at D, okay at O, bad at working hard/hitting.
Goalie, good to very good, steady.

Move on from the one solid spot. This is the same bullsh1t cycle we have been in for 53 years.

FIX .THE. D! Motherfu3king. Period.

Then if Freddy faulters, move him.

Jeebuz Toronto. WTF!

The one small problem is that Murray is not a very good goalie

Ya and if the Leafs forwards weren't soft and if the top-tier talent could score against a zamboni driver and the defense wasn't so bad they are playing Maricin and if, if, if.

Freddy is NOT the worst problem right now and your boy Dubie, dubie, doo couldn't scout goalie talent with Brodeur's eyes.

FIX.THE.D.

FIX.THE.BALL-LESS.FORWARDS.

Then worry about Freddy.

Technically they did score on the zamboni driver, twice in fact.

Did they? Why do I remember they barely got a shot against???? Well they should've scored at least two more for the W then.

(I'm drunk half the time so there's that)
