I predicted out 4 straight. They deserved to fall 4 straight.
"Crow" stole them a game.

Enjoy game 5. Don't stress.

HAWKS will be a lil better next year, and in two years should be a true playoff team.

Heading the right way, just show patience guys!!!

Deserved?

I thought they kinda deserved game 2

Hey Tyler. I know Entwistle is a guy who potentially factors into the Hawks future as a bottom 6 fwd...hopefully center.

But as soon as next season?

That said, it’s also been speculated here and in the Athletic that Dach’s emergenc has made Strome expendable.

What do you think?

- HawkintheD

I think Entwistle will get a sniff next year, but I don't think he'll be a full time guy unless he is a beast in camp and in RFD or there are a lot of injuries.

I struggle with Strome; on one hand, I don't think you'll be able to get someone of his talent for the price I think they can no get him for.

I say keep him for no more than 2-years on a bridge deal for $3M per. Any more term or AAV and I would have to think about moving him.

I also don't think Strome will ever be set up to be a strong playoff performer. I'd rather a faster, feistier, and tougher to play against centre in the mold of a Toews and - soon-to-be Dach. Can we somehow pry Adam Lowry away from WIN? I think he's a perfect guy for a 3C.

Michael Pachla, the Sabres writer here at HB asked me about Strome and whether BUF would be a good fit.

I don't think they are the best fit if the Hawks are to deal Strome, but here's what I sent to him:

Can I see the Hawks trading Strome? Yes.

Does Buffalo make sense? Sure. Bowman might be looking for some redemption after that Jokiharju for Nylander trade. Ha.

Here are a couple trades – that seem somewhat reasonable for both teams - however Sabres fans may hate them:

1) CHI trades Dylan Strome and Dylan Sikura to BUF for Casey Mittelstadt

2) CHI trades Dylan Strome, Olli Maatta, and Dylan Sikura to BUF for Jonas Johansson and Tage Thompson

Hawks wouldn’t mind shedding salary and their M.O. is to get back a younger, less expensive player who has potential (ie. Mittelstadt).

Not sure if the Sabres have soured enough on Mittelstadt to trade him but he looks to be the biggest target that the Hawks would go after.

Another area would be a future goaltender. The Hawks don’t have any sure-fire starters in the system, so if they could pry away Johansson or Luukkonen from BUF, that could be appealing.

The Hawks have a glut of defencemen signed into next year and I know BUF have quite a few as well, so not sure if the Hawks could pawn off Maatta, but hey, it was worth a shot. Ha.

In conclusion, Strome would be a solid 2C in BUF behind Eichel, but if they were to deal for him, I would proceed with caution with how much you give him on this next contract. He may just be a solid 3C and if that’s the case, I wouldn’t want to go much more than the $3-4M range.

Interesting. I know that Lowry's contract is up after next season. What would it take to pry him away? Sikura plus a 2nd?

I'm not sure. WIN really likes him and the dude is built for playoff hockey. You might have to send Strome there and hope WIN offers Lowry+ in return. They need Dmen so can they take Maatta off our hands? ha.

Too bad Matta makes $4 mil. per, because you can say he is built for playoff hockey also, where games are less a track meet, and more a test of will. Only time I saw Matta's lack of speed really hurt was when McDavid horsed him. Also, I don't know if Da Haan is much faster, and he has gotten horsed more than Matta has. In fact, I would submit Matta/KK pair has been the most consistent (in a good way) pairing for the Hawks in the pandemic season.

I think the other thing that needs to be said is that the Knights are an organized team on the ice, have good structure through the neutral and defensive zone, break out quickly and effectively and look like professionals.

The Hawks look like an under 7 soccer blob. Either the players they have are absent NHL level talent, too unintelligent or difficult to take instruction, or the coach is horrible. They're not as talented up and down the line up as the knights but it shouldn't look this bad. No organization in any zone and painfully slow breakouts and transition. The roster is irrelevant they shouldn't be this awful.

Dcat looked really good in spurts last night but honestly don't think he had that good a game. Still had a few bad turnovers and he was an absolute mess in his own end along with his linemates. Also several of the shots on net he had weren't exactly fastballs. More like shanks that got on net. I remember at least 4-5 shifts that were spent entirely in the Dzone. That being said he was more noticeable in a good way.

Nylander.... so frustrating!!!! Although those ripping on him for staying up high on several occasions in the dzone is a little unwarranted. He is supposed to stay up high. Both d-men hadn't pinched and were up top. The problem is the other 4 Hawks were getting abused by 3 Vegas forwards. You can't have all 5 Hawks down around the goaline.

Crow won himself a game. Toews looks absolutely gassed. Boqvist looks shell shocked at this point. He can't even handle the puck cleanly. He is out there thinking about what he should do instead of reacting/playing naturally.

Colliton needs to scheme some sort of release valve/outlet for the Vegas forecheck or this series will be over tomorrow. Eating the puck along the boards against a heavy Vegas team and/or trying to reverse the puck around the boards (which usually ends up as a turnover) is not a good strategy.

Tyler, although I’ve supported Strome in the past, with Dach’s emergence as a 2C we really need a different type of center for our third line. We need a more defensively responsible center, with size, more speed and good at the dot, Strome only has one of those attributes. Thanks for all you do.

I thought Toews was 3C? That leaves Strome and Dach to battle it out for 1&2

So, combining this quote and your comments about the Vegas 4th line, what is the case for keeping him? He's is a 3rd center on this team, is big - but slow, and can't seem to win the 1-on-1 battles to keep possession. I've been lukewarm on Strome for a while. I like his vision, and IQ, but you can't have a 6'3" 200lbs center that gets pushed around and is slow.

Had hoped Q would break out when he was moved to new team but apparently he still isn't able to play in the NHL.

Ironic that out of the 4 games the Hawks won, they won the game where they were just flat out dominated by Vegas. Mercy.

CC was sensational last night. Hawks get a version of that less, then a little, and revert back to their efforts in game 2 or 3....and they can make this interesting in a hurry.

Hawks need 19/20/8 to find it quickly. THey were dominated all weekend long.

Maybe that freebie empty netter gets 12 going....he has been buzzing the last 2 games.

All the rest is rehashed topics. I get the anger towards 92. He skates like it's beer league rarely engaging unless he has the puck. Probably why Buffalo was quick to move on from him.

As much crap as the guy took during the season, Maata has been a bright spot where as DeHaan looks.....horrid.

Series gets interesting now...I fully expect Vegas to ramp it further and barrage the Hawks in the 1st tomorrow night. If Hawks can stem that tide get a lead and make Vegas earn scoring chances instead of self imploding in their own zone, neutral zone, they have a decent chance to forcing this to a game that's 1 from winner take all.....something I am sure Vegas is VERY aware of and wants no part of.

I agree......The emergence of Dach this last 2 weeks makes Strome an expendable asset IF bowman chooses to dump him and/or Strome's agent wants a decent raise. To me....the guy doesnt deserve a $0.01 north of 2 AAV. 2-3 year 2 AAV and allow Strome to find it and build a bigger case for higher end money? Sure.....I can stomach it.

I'll also add this.....we all speculated an offseason to add muscle would help 77 and 27, and I'll say it again........August Dach blows away Sept-March Dach.......so in those 4+ months 77 added some muscle and you can see the confidence.....so my question is what the hell was Boqvist doing during the EXACT time frame? Kid maybe weighs 140 lbs in equipment, and is a rag doll.......I'm not advocating dumping him already, but curious what he was doing during shut down.....I mean at some point do the Hawsk have to realistically look at moving this kid up to F based on his size?

Every D pairing he is on.....plumments. Dehaan and him had a train run on them all night.

Being big is good. Being big and knowing how to play hockey is useful. Seems like both of these guys have a problem with the latter.
