The Sabres need this too

PALMATEER: “LEAFS NEED PLAYOFF GRIT”

“You can develop confidence, but a competitive drive and spirit is part of your DNA; either you have it or you don’t,” said Mike Palmateer over the phone today. “It’s wonderful to be skilled… yet it doesn’t matter much without a passionate desire to win. And, it has to flourish in the playoffs. Everything else is just the build–up. If you cannot ‘bring it’ while playing for the Stanley Cup, there isn’t a lot of hope for your team.”

“As we all know, the Leafs of today are extremely skilled, but the team needs some grit,” said Palmateer, 66, a scout with the club from 2001–15. “The general manager [Kyle Dubas] adheres to analytics, which call for speed and puck movement. What I’ve seen, however, are guys putting on the brakes rather than paying the price. Spinning away from contact and the so–called ‘dirty’ areas of the ice. You can’t win like that in the playoffs, no way. If you aren’t willing to fight for the puck; to control it along the boards and in the corners, you won’t succeed. That part of the game hasn’t changed since I played. [Zach] Hyman is the only Toronto forward that sacrifices himself. As a group, the Maple Leafs do not have enough burning desire to win.”

http://betweentheposts.ca...-leafs-need-playoff-grit/

That is what I said the other day when I said they need players who play with grit and are battlers and go to the corners, he says it better than me with walls too, The Sabres have no top 6 wingers who are battlers. Not just ones who go to the slot once and a while.

Does Pekar make that push, it's gonna be interesting in Rochester. They are gonna have a young team it sounds like.

Saw this article, I don’t consider this trade because he is the whole team right now and the draft pick and Vilardi are unknowns.

Would you make this deal?

To the Kings - Jack Eichel

To the Sabres - Jeff Carter, Gabriel Vilardi, #2 overall pick and a 2020 2nd round pick

Seems like maybe they do a 2021 1st instead of the 2nd rounded, but still not interested.

Kadri was a solid solution to Sabres issue of having no reliable 2C last year. (The season before also, but he probably wasn't Avila ble then).
But nope, 'cause he was suspended for an emotional hit in the playoffs folks here didn't want him, lol...say that word it with me...P-L-A-Y-O-F-F-S...you know that thing the boys here have not even sniffed in 9 years, lol!
BLUNDER.

But hey, let's waste energy pursuing Cizikas, lol!

Amen brother!
Very underrated.
I hear alot of better players, better results...which is true, however many equate "better player" to skill only rather than the compete, refuse to lose, challenge other players. THAT is truly the difference in 75% of players...15% suck, 10% are supremely talented and difference makers.
Within that 75%, roughly 15 of a roster of 21 ... that in and of itself should be a high, very high factor.

I hope Nightengale has a metric for it, and it is ranked highly

Their next four first round picks, including this year's, plus Vilardi, and they take Okposo. They can keep Carter.

No? OK then, ill keep Eichel.

Nope.
But if they came forward with:
- Ryan Getzlaf with a 1 year extension ( 2 Yr total)
- Trevor Zegras
- 2020's 6-OA
- 2021's 1st rounder
- Benoit-Olivier Groulx

I would also supply Mitts.
Include Rakell, and Montour is included as well.

Eichel garners i) 2020's 6th OA, ii) 2021's 1st, iii) Zegras, iv) B-G Groulx
Mitts for Extended Getzlaf
Montour for Rakell

If they hem and haw, tell them we need 2022's 1st also

Yanks just keep rolling along. Such a deep team, amazing the little moves like Voit, Tauchman, Ursella, throw aways from other teams.
