Jesus christ, Chayka left a disaster behind in Arizona. Really don't know how I feel about ownership having interest in him.

If hall signs in Phoenix, would we still get their 1st next year?

Cant remember the conditions on the trade if they had to win a playoff series or not

Second, if they won a playoff series too we could have gotten a first, but the playin series was not counted as playoffs.

That’s a heck of a penalty the NHL hit AZ with.

Can’t imagine them doing that to an original 6 team but who knows.

It really is some kind of penalty. That is a massive blow to that franchise..really stunts the perpetual rebuild..or..whatever they are. It stunts them either way. Does the punishment really fit the crime? Maybe? Idk

I think it's an overreaction, but it's probably because the MLB did so little and has gotten negative press for essentially a year straight for it.

It just greases the wheels for them to leave Arizona, which is what Bettman wants....

Are there any trades we could make to give them their first back? Do they have anybody in the pipeline? Is Keller on the table?!

I hear they do some mean scouting!

Lets see, they won't have Hall, still have cap issues, and have like 1 pick in the top three over the next two years. Some one actually looks worse than us. Trading Keller is not going to help them though.....

AZ should trade us Ekman-Larrson for their 1st round pick in 20 and Severson. Throw in a high end prospect outside of Smith/Bahl/Foote. Maybe Walsh or Okhotyuk?

Why would Devils do that? We relieve their cap crunch, give up a decent Dman, give them some nice assets and get the declining years of OEL's production. If they want to unload OEL for a bargain price for a salary dump, OK, otherwise hard pass.

It's because our fans hate Severson for some reason even though he has been our best defenseman for years.

Being our best defenseman by no means makes him a great defender. I don't hate him at all, he would play well on most teams second lines if used correctly. OEL is an elite defenseman and you don't get him for a salary dump. In fact, they don't really need to dump salary if they are positioning an offer to Hall a contract for multiple years. We need talent and a mid round 1st, an above average role player (Sevs) and a prospect is what you have to give for a player of OEL's caliber.

I mean, look what Toronto got for Kapanen. I doubt what I proposed would even be enough for AZ to accept, nor would OEL waive his NMC. but a hard pass by the NJD if this were a possibility is absurd.

Hard pass on Ekman-Larsson for that price. That'd be a terrible trade for us

OEL stopped being elite a year ago. Still a hard pass. That is my opinion, no offense intended.

But how cool would it be to have OEL and PK both past their primes. NJ Could be a team with the youngest group of forwards and like an NHL old age home on the blue line!

We could change the name to the NJ Geezers and Tweeners!

Werther's Original could become a major sponsor, along with Sunrise Assisted Living. Great marketing opportunities here and the new team goal song could be something classic like Auld Lang Syne! Instead of chanting "Hey, you suck!" we can chant "Hey, get off my lawn!"

Just a thought. But you're probably right. Bad move....

None taken. Had his talents deteriorated like PK's and we were trying to bring him back up I might agree. We need a D1 and I think he would be a great choice. There aren't a lot of chances to land a player of his skillset, not that I actually think we have a shot at even grabbing him... just thinking out loud. I know we have very little leverage in most instances and even less attractiveness to land top tier FA's. trades are our only shot and taking on a contract is probably our best chance of doing as much. Our entire D is atrocious, so any deal where we do not send Ty Smith or Bahl I'd be open to.

I agree 100%...as thin as we are do not want to trade Smith or Bahl at all....I think the perfect off season would be to package 2 of our excess wingers (Wood,Boqvist,Anderson?)along with the Vancouver 1st rounder to a cap strapped team for a scoring winger and to sign one of the top UFA Dmen that are available...I do not wanna see us lose any defensemen at all

Honestly I'm not against trading for OEL if it was a deal like what we gave up for PK. I just don't think that would ever happen. No way would I move a legit defensive prospect and especially not Bahl or Smith. As far as players, sure if they want Carrick or Mueller or maybe even Butcher; but not Severson.

OEL is only 29. Maybe it wasn't a great year for him but his numbers weren't too far off. His playoff numbers were decent.

I tell ya the Coyotes could be a real interesting trade partner for alot of teams this year...being they were just stripped 2 high draft picks the next 2 years along with us having theirs this year they could be real hungry for acquiring draft picks in trades..You wonder how their whole near future lies on whether they can resign Hall which would seem unlikely.

That's my thought process, they are going to be desperate for a draft pick b/c of what just happened. Vancouver's will be late, so their own pick this year could be very attractive. They're about to face another rebuild, considering there is a low chance they can retain Hall. Swipe OEL off their books and their payroll is pretty manageable and they'll be looking for picks/prospects.

Severson has been a great player, but is he really worth holding? I mean, if you really think about it, he isn't anything special. If we can use him in a trade for any top tier player, as mentioned in other conversations, offense or defense, I have no problem letting him go. Same with Zacha, serviceable player, but never going to hit the potential we thought when drafted. this is a rebuild and we are holding on to our above average players b/c we don't have a lot of them... while they're just average to everyone other team out there.

Colorado has been heavily rumored. They came close to being our original trade partner, and made the smart move to wait out the rental market. Hall stated his desire to win is greater than his desire to earn. But that just throws salt into the Yotes wounds after getting bent over by the Av's just a week ago..... Yikes. Between the Hall trade, GM quitting, flat cap, and forfeited 1st and 2nd due to illegal scouting, this is the most beaten and broken team in the league.

It’s not that I wouldn’t specifically move Severson in the right deal. Just if your trading for OEL to upgrade your defense it seems like two steps forward and one step back. Rather trade picks and a forward prospect or player.
