A 1st next year would be really really nice, but I can't lie if I say I'm not getting the smallest amount of satisfaction for the Arizona beatdown. I'm mad at them for not losing in the play-in, and mad at Nashville for not winning. screw them both because they screwed us.
and those are my adult-level feelings.

GO BLUES!!

Sami Vats is in. Now at 75% if Carolina’s games!

Hello 3rd Round Pick?!

Took a while watching intermittently until I actually saw him but he’s there.

Since it is hard to determine who will be a stud that deep into the draft, my hope is that they strongly consider gambling on another Tendy with that pick. If we do not take Askarov in the first round, there is a very strong chance that a top 5 goalie prospect will still be available at that point in the draft. I would take a chance on that vs the 32nd highest ranked LW (or whoever at that point).

A quality goalie prospect should be a definite target for us and I'd be glad to use the lowest pick we have outside of the first round.

I'd be OK if we took Askarov with the Vancouver or Arizona pick but I think he's going to go near where Spencer Knight did last year (13th overall). So I don't think we will get a shot at him other then with the #7 pick overall; and we should not use that on a goalie.

These playoff games are really putting into perspective the makeup of players and coaching necessary to be a great team. Different teams have different identities, none of which involve unskilled players of course. The Avs use more of their speed and skill while the Blues are more physical and wear you down. Last night's games were pretty remarkable and seeing the strengths and weaknesses of different teams. Tampa is mostly skill but have guys like Coleman and Maroon. Boston is Boston, with those top tier players and a culture that knows how to play such solid hockey. The Caps I think are really missing Backstrom, plus have the inferior coaching compared to other teams, and Holtby isn't on his A-game.

We're so far away from being any of these teams. Nico NEEDS to be a Horvat. Hughes NEEDS to be a center version of Kane. If we keep Gusev, he NEEDS to be a 30g scorer. And our defense is so so many pieces away.

I'll tell you what though, if Jack can take a step and be as good at center as his mere 19yr old brother is at being an offensive dman.. we'll have a very nice piece.

We should package Jack in a massive deal with Vancouver!

Just a thought- our division remains stacked next season. Every team was a playoff or strong play-in team this year, with the Rags adding Lafreniere to a team that already has a Hart candidate .. and 2 very good goalies.
Curious what the Pens do in the off-season, but as long as Crosby is there and capable of 80+pts, I don't see them dumping everyone and rebuilding. 2 very good young goalies, Guentzel, Rust, Zucker, Marino, Pettersson, and Malkin had an epic season, etc etc. Carolina isn't going away, neither is Washington, Philly, Islanders, Philly has arrived..
We'll be picking bottom 10 again next year.

for what? They're team is set down the middle with Horvat and Pettersson. They have a very good team and should continue to be good as young Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes continue to develop. They'll figure out the cap issue. I don't think it's a big deal or complicated.

I'm not giving up on Jack yet, not without a haul coming back the other way.

just want to get this draft over with already. it'll forever burn my soul to not have 2 picks in the top 10. i think that would speed up our rebuild by a year, since you're getting another year's worth of a top 10 pick in the same year. Oh well.

Holtz vs. Quinn. .is there that much of a difference? Maybe we should get Sanderson and try for Quinn later? Or go Holtz and try for Schneider later?

If we land Rossi, man he'd look great on the Hischier's wing.
Raymond remains a mystery to me, but so many are so high on him as a complete player. I just don't want "complete" to be confused with mediocre.
Just how great will Sanderson be? He definitely looks like he could be that top-pair 2-way dman with both jam and offensive and leadership abilities. Wish we could land 2 of the big fish, but 1 will be great.

I think WPG will go Lundell at 10. That would be a beautiful 2nd line C after Scheifele. Then you have Copp as the 3rd C.

Predators are at 11, Florida 12, Carolina 13, Edmonton 14, Pitt 15, and then we'll see.
I have a hard time seeing Quinn getting past those 5 teams. He improved so much between this year and last year.. if he takes another step and grow into man-strength, he could be special.
I can't wait to see what happens, if we make some moves during the draft to move up, or down, or trade Palms or Gusev, etc.

Islanders well on their way to sweeping the Caps and just proving how important coaching really is, which is why we are dedicated to more years of losing with Ruff.

the Predators proved how important coaching really is.. as if they didn't get the hint from Hynes' work in Jersey.

Think the Iles would take Vancouver's pick + Zacha for Trotz?

There wasn't an 18 year old that had a great season last year. I'd hate to give up on Jack so quickly, and trade him while his stock is down. You can argue that keeping the typical Calder finalists in the NCAA to mature is a good option, but you could easily argue that having them struggle as 18 year olds is better. I would sooner be inking offering a 20 year old to an 8 year extension as a player continuing to improve at a great price, than a 23 year old Makar in his absolute prime. It is not the time to give up on Jack.

Luckily Fitz seems to have that aspect of trading dialed. With Gusev and Palms entering their final year under contract, either one would land a serious haul with 50% of their already underpaid contracts retained. I am sure he will offer them a fair extension, and if there are any difficulties getting the deal done, they will be bringing in more high picks/prospects.

You think Holtz could be a decent bust candidate? Your greatest ability is scoring, and you have 9 goals in 35 games? also 5 goals in 17g for Sweden U20. In 2018-19 he managed 30g in 38 games, so there's that. Other players have speed, playmaking ability, smarts.. Holtz scores, but last year I'm not seeing all that many goals. If he doesn't produce, what else can he bring? My nightmare is Brian Rolston's 2nd stint in Jersey.. not fast, heavy shot, but meh production.

Didn't he jump up to the men's league last year? Would explain the goal drop

Yeah I’m not really bailing on Jack. I’m just saying I’d dangle him for a big return to a team that might be motivated.

Holtz's shot alone will make him an NHL player. I'm just skeptical with him as to how his ceiling actually is. For me its Perfetti>Sanderson>Drysdale>Rossi

I was thinking the same. Brutal back to back losses. Although I doubt he was staying anyway.
