There were certainly other factors.

But my point is regarding the narrative around the player. He was labeled as someone who can't win/doesn't care. Not unlike the way Nylander is now.

Maybe I just think writing off 22-24 year old players as perennial failures is moronic - especially when recent history has shown that similar players who were written off went on to have success.

I think some just see him as the guy to trade if needed...out of the top 4.

Some guys don’t like him, he’s pretty soft so I get it...he drives me nuts at times too.

But yes, trading him for just the sake of trading him would be silly.

He's not a write off at all. He, like many others from TO will go elsewhere and buy in to a proper culture and likely win.

So same old same old then. He did that last year & had to run a short roster. The D prospects are 1 year more developed. So Dubas didn’t say anythimg really from what was obvious from this last season. He’s counting on the D kids. That is ok but it needs to be results driven success or he’s deluded. The Q is how far that success amounts to.
