So apparently the Penguins are having $ issues and will cut payroll. Forget about a flat cap, half the league will be reducing payroll. - RogerRoeper

Less about the teams losing money and more about the owners not having the cash flow to supplement it suddenly. |

Yep. If your defense is strong enough that most of the time you only need your goalie to make the first save, you can have success with some middling at best goaltenders. - BINGO!
What if your goalie can't make the first save, or when he does, he kicks out a 12' rebound?

Yes. The Mowatt report from 2015 shows half the league breaks even or loses money. Florida loses 15 million a year minimum. That’s why we need more teams and teams in places no one cares. The report shows Phoenix was getting 14,000 viewers locally for televised games. |

Clear them. Giggy was letting out rebounds when he won the smyth. The ducks always cleared it. Reimer let out a few early last night. They were cleared. |

Wait that means engaging physically with he opponent ..and a willingness and desire to battle for the puck.

In the first case, you're goalie sucks.
In the second, he kind of sucks but there's something you can do about it. Tie up sticks, get there first.
you don't have to knock a guy on his ass to prevent him from getting the puck if you put your body in the way of his stick. Just gotta compete and want it.

Cash vs. Cap will be important too.
Escrow was always going to be the biggest concern. Players hated it ...now factor in empty arenas and lost revenue and all of a sudden the escrow could have been 30-40%.
As part of the new CBA they capped escrow. Can't recall exactly how it plays out but it's 20% in yr one ...and 15/16% in years two three and drops down to 6% in the final few years. For comparison the escrow has typically been about 10% and the players hated that.
So you can imagine that the league will DEFINITELY lose more than 20% next season so players already know that they'll be losing 20% of their salary.
The best nuance (unless they changed it in the new CBA) is bonus money is exempt from escrow.
Guys may take "less" on their Cap in exchange for big bonus payments upfront.
I imagine you'll also see players backload the money into the low escrow years (as much as the new CBA allows it). |

Absolute (frank)ing joke that we have to beat the Refs too but hey, them's the breaks.
And as long as Marchand, Krug and Rask keep up their pissbaby act I like the Canes chances.
Svech knocked the Bruins D around a fair bit tonight. He enjoys that stuff. It's cool. - BINGO!

I would love it if the refs actually had to defend their calls. Never going to happen, but I would like to see them in front of a microphone being grilled. - Leafs43
That's exactly how it should be.
And not just the NHL. Officials need to be held accountable in every and all leagues. |
