I'll guarantee this.
Matt Murray or JA will be on this team next year.
I think both will...but I guarantee Dubas gets at least one. - Santo_44

You don't need to pay goalies 5+ million to win.

Biggest problem with the Leafs is that 3rd line.Take a hatchet to it.

No, not likely.
Svechnikov, Teravainen and Necas can all play RW. - BINGO!
Ack. Yeah, not much need for Nylander.

Did some digging.
Justin Bourne(assistant Marlies GM at the time) reported that Matt Murray was discussed and offered in the Phil Kessel deal when Dubas was the AGM. Speculation is Dubas wanted him.
He was a SSM Greyhound when Dubas was the GM there.
Who coached Murray for 2 seasons in Junior?? Sheldon Keefe
Murray is on the block...He is an RFA and likely doesn't get a big contract on a 2-3 year deal. Yeah I think Dubas gets him, and reading into the Kessel deal I would not be surprised that Dubas had a vision for Murray as the future starter over Freddy.
Past 3 seasons
Even Strength Save Percentage: .916 (48th)
Goals Saved Above Average (GSAA): -6.15 (55th)
High Danger Save Percentage: .843 (11th)
High Danger GSAA: 15.32 (9th)
Medium Danger Save Percentage: .894 (66th)
Medium Danger GSAA: -16.81 (74th)
In an attempt to visualize these areas to show where Murray is strong and poor, here are the low, medium, and high danger areas of the rink. Murray is well above average in terms of stopping pucks and preventing goals from the high-danger area. He really struggles when opponents generate offensive chances from the medium danger areas and high slot.
Yeah...for a team that takes chances...A goalie who does well against high danger scoring chances is a pretty damn good fit.
The fit is there in the system.

Nope. Just have good structure and defence. He only had to make 4 or 5 big saves. How it should be.

The lack of talent and depth on defense is by far the biggest issue.

What's the chance the Canes fall in love with Vatanen, sign him and make Pesce available via trade? - The Law
Better, but odds are better that they try to dump Gardiner and use the money they're spending on him to lock up Vatanen.
Slavin - Hamilton
Skjei - Pesce
Fleury - Vatanen

Yep. If your defense is strong enough that most of the time you only need your goalie to make the first save, you can have success with some middling at best goaltenders.

Joel Edmundson and Trevor van Reimsdyk will likely both be available on the UFA market.
I'd go with TVR myself. Depth RHD that won't cost much but can play a steady game. You know what you're getting out of him.
Plus the cup ring.

Anyone who pushes Marincin down the depth chart helps.
Preferably we would add someone at the top. (I am going to keep hoping for Pietrangelo until he signs with New York)

Both are the types of players that will need to take 1-1.5 M deals to play in the NHL this season

So apparently the Penguins are having $ issues and will cut payroll. Forget about a flat cap, half the league will be reducing payroll.
