1. Trade Nylander and a 2nd or 3rd round pick to Detroit, NJ or Ana for the 5, 6 or 7th overall pick this year and select Perfetti, Lundell or Raymond (or Stutzle/Holtz if available) to replace Nylander in a year or two at a lower cost for 3 years.
2. Sign Pietrangelo with the cap space cleared by trading Nylander and letting Ceci and Barrie walk.
3. Trade Kapanen and a propsect (Korshkov, Bracco or Brooks) to Anaheim for Josh Manson
Defence would then be:
Rielly - Pietrangelo
Muzzin - Holl
Dermott - Manson
Extra: Sandin
Forward Lines:
Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Johnsson - Tavares - Mikheyev
Robertson - Kerfoot - Engvall
Clifford - Spezza - Malgin
Extra: Gauthier
The money could work if they resign Clifford and Spezza to reasonable deals with $14.25M cap hit leaving with Nylander/Barrie/Ceci. The forwards aren't as deep but they are far more balanced with an experienced, rugged defence that would stack up with most of the top end teams in the East. - GPMike
I like this. I’d switch Hyman and Mikeleyev.
I still think u need to trade Kerfoot for a more rugged 3C. |

Subban is a waste. He's no longer good at what he used to be and what he used to be bad at is absolutely horrible now. He's too focused on anything other than hockey and he clearly never cared enough to listen to anyone in order to be any quality defender.
Nobody should want anything to do with him especially since he'll want way too much money. |

Trade for Luke Glendening from Wings.
Trade/sign a goalie.
Probably just leaf the roster alone. They just got beat by Columbus which is a great coached team that is going to once again make a deep playoff run |

As an Isles fan, I'd like to see the Leafs:
1. Retain Dubas;
2. trade for an offensive defenseman who can't play defense, preferably LH;
3. stubbornly stick to the plan and invest more in analytics. - doublechili
Heyyyyyyy!!! That's Rogers plan you copy-cat!

First, Nylander, Anderson, and a 2nd for Grubauer, Jost, Graves, and a 1st
You flip rental goalies here and roll the dice on Grubauer for cap savings. Get a cheap replacement RW with upside and a critical top 4 LD. Cap savings! Cap savings!
Second, Kerfoot or Kapanen for Montour and a 2nd
Sabres desperately need C and RW depth. Gives Toronto a buy very low option on a needed RD playing in a bad situation in exchange for a guy who can be replaced on line 3 (either way) by Spezza. Always trade with the Sabres when you can!
Third, get rid of Holl. Already looks overpaid even at $2M. Give Liljegren his chance. |

Second try:
First, Nylander and Anderson for Merzlikins, Josh Anderson, David Savard, and a 1st
Buy low RW replacement, cheaper goalie option for a few years who looks expendadble in CBJ, solid rental RD of the exact kind they need, and a 1st to use to add elsewhere.
Second, Kerfoot (or Kapanen) for Montour and a 2nd.
Trade an expendable guy (either way) who can be replaced on Spezza on line 3 duty for a buy low RD. Sabres desperate for C and RW depth.
Third, get rid of Holl. Already looks overpaid even at $2M. Give Liljegren his chance. |
