I knew this was going to be entertaining. As soon as I saw "You be the Toronto GM" I just knew how much fun I would have seeing the awesome values placed on Toronto players. I was not disappointed. Thank you Leaf Nation.

1. Trade Nylander and a 2nd or 3rd round pick to Detroit, NJ or Ana for the 5, 6 or 7th overall pick this year and select Perfetti, Lundell or Raymond (or Stutzle/Holtz if available) to replace Nylander in a year or two at a lower cost for 3 years.

2. Sign Pietrangelo with the cap space cleared by trading Nylander and letting Ceci and Barrie walk.

3. Trade Kapanen and a propsect (Korshkov, Bracco or Brooks) to Anaheim for Josh Manson

Defence would then be:

Rielly - Pietrangelo
Muzzin - Holl
Dermott - Manson
Extra: Sandin

Forward Lines:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Johnsson - Tavares - Mikheyev
Robertson - Kerfoot - Engvall
Clifford - Spezza - Malgin
Extra: Gauthier

The money could work if they resign Clifford and Spezza to reasonable deals with $14.25M cap hit leaving with Nylander/Barrie/Ceci. The forwards aren't as deep but they are far more balanced with an experienced, rugged defence that would stack up with most of the top end teams in the East.

Nobody in their right mind would take Nylander and give up any of the Top 10 picks for him LOL. I know Leafs fans overvalue their guys but WOW. Nylander isn't someone that I would going that hard to get.

Apparently you can't trade the exceptional contracts of Nylander, Marner, JT or AM. You ain't gonna get a lot for Kapanen or Johnsson. Barrie, Spezza are FA. Anderson is all they got in net, can't move him. Robertson is the next great superstar, he going nowhere. Just what CAN you do??...just more of the same....

#1 trade Marner and Justin Holl to the devils for PK , Zacha, and miles wood.
#2. trade Andreas Johnnson and dermont to the oilers for Ethan Bear and chiasson
#3. sign Radko Gudas 3 yrs 2.75per


First trade is almost even cap for even cap. leafs get a top pairing guy for Riley finally along with 2 quality middle 6 fowards and some much needed grit with miles wood

trade 2 is about freeing up money. johnson at 3.4 and dermont whos an rfa probably in the 2.5 range so around 6 mil goes out for chasion 2.1 and bear whos an rfa probably in the same range as dermont 2.5 but is right handed which the leafs desperately need and save 1.5-2 mil in the process

lastly sing the big nasty penalty killing machine in Gudas giving the leafs 3 right handed dman and d pairs something like this Riley PK, Muzzin Gudas, Sandin Bear...a huge improvement a 3 left and 3 right handed d...

The loss of marners offensive should be replaced by Pk, zacha, wood, and Robertson. these moves alos improve the leafs overall team depth which just wasnt strong enough

I like this idea. I think Johnsson/Kerfott/Kapanen is far too much of the same. Andersen needs to go. Get assets for him instead of letting him walk for nothing as no way you should sign him.

Leo Komorov is done and has a horrific contract that would be the worst on the Leafs by far. He can't even crack Toronto's lineup. 2 more years @ 3 million per. Horrible contrcat by Lou.

As an Isles fan, I'd like to see the Leafs:

1. Retain Dubas;
2. trade for an offensive defenseman who can't play defense, preferably LH;
3. stubbornly stick to the plan and invest more in analytics.

They know have Jack Campbell and this is the best offseaon for UFA goalies in years. Yes, you can move him.

Marner or Nylander HAS TO GO to shore up that right side.

It's impossible to put a value on players in trades with COVID. there will reportedly be a lot of teams cutting budget.

And a RH D doesn't need to be some huge name at all anyways.

If I was Leafs GM i let Barrie and Ceci walk because that frees up 7.25 million then I extend Dermott he'll come in at around 1.5-2 million per year I flip Kapinan and a late round pick (if needed) to try and get Ristolainen out of Buffalo because he's frustrated and may want to go to a playoff team therefore trade value is a little low

I then also look at acquiring the rights to RFA Sean Walker out of LA. He like Dermott would come at a low cost but he would provide some fixes the Leafs need he is a 2 way d-man who is strong in his own end and he plays physical.

Plus Dermott and Walker were teammates in Jr A together and speaking from experience the two played VERY well together (you know Pierrie Mcguire would mention that)
