Took a few years for the Weber/Subban trade to stink though. Subban was a Norris nominee 2 years straight after that trade, right? Weber was hurt often enough that it was looking pretty bad for them. Always weirded me out that Subban started to tank when he got voted most overrated player in the league...

Which was insane, really. 'Cause there was 3 d-man on his own team better than him.

Leafs trade Nylander for to NJ for their 2 later first round picks (From Vancouver and AZ). Draft D men.
Next sign Alex Pietrangelo
Finally trade Kerfoot for Boone Jenner (or a 3C like BJ).

So easy. I'll do it in 1 move. Relocate to Oklahoma City. Fans wont care, pressure's off and they don't have a 50 odd year tradition of losing to live up to. (really, that celebration they had a few years back for the 50th anniversary of the last time the team won something should have been anything but a celebration). Get em out of Toronto and they'll thrive. That market crushes its teams.

What happened in Toronto was no surprise to anyone who was looking at this team honestly. You cant buy a stanley cup by loading a team up with superstars .

Chemistry, role players leadership non of which Toronto possesses. The ole saying goes to many chiefs and not enough Indians.

The first mistake imo was the tavares signing , he was overpaid , obviously he isn't a strong leader or reliable. What he did to the islanders is a prime example of a disloyal player whom is all about himself and not about the best interests of the team.

With the covid screwing up sports in general it's going to be hard for any team to trade these guys

- Taylorst1

Kind of silly comment from a hawks fan. Leafs only signed one of their best players UFA, drafted all the rest. You could say it's almost like signing a player like Marian Hossa to a team already stocked with high end talent...

Step two, sign UFA2B Brendan Dillon

Step three, sign Kovalchuk

- TheMussel

Nylander just scored 31 goals. Say what you will about playoff performance, I think they'd at least consider him if it cost a 30 year old defenseman.

Move Marner for a cheap RD+ picks (if possible), then use cap space to sign Pietrangelo. Pietrangelo and Cheap RD replace Barrie and Ceci next year for around the same cap hit.

Surprised if so many Marner inclusions...

Would Leaf Fans go for something like

Marner for

Ristolainen, mittelstadt, and next years top 5 protected first rd pick

Maybe some other moving parts but that would be the meat

Nylander will bring a mid the late first round pick.

Not many teams can add salary without sending salary back.

Leafs need a first round pick in order to deal for the Dman they need. Or they need to shed salary to sign the UFA Dman that could help them.

#2. Dermott/Kerfoot/2nd round pick to NJ for Zacha/Wood.

#3. Andersen/Johnsson to Pittsburgh for Murray/Aston-Reese.

Bonus: sign Travis Hamonic.

Because (frank) this team that's why.

What was amazing about that save is that he did not just stick his blade out and the puck happened to hit it. He was looking at the puck all the way and you can see him react. He got lucky but it was educated luck. Hasekesque.

Well considering they just got bounced from the post-season by ARIZONA of all teams, I’d say they would consider a shake up or two.

Your trying to compare tavares to Hossa? Hossa at that point in his career had earned 2 back to back trips to the cup , was a perennial player and no baggage. The salary he signed for was realistic .

And in the end who was more valuable to their teams hossa or tavares? Clearly hossa was he helped them earn 5 western conference finals and 3 Stanley cups. Tavares hasn't accomplished much.

Also Chicago wasn't overpaying to win a cup , they had a young core and a farm team loaded with depth and talent .

Saved Suzuki a back injury to boot.

I’d bet Suzuki had a Hershey squirt in his pants after that play.
