Took a few years for the Weber/Subban trade to stink though. Subban was a Norris nominee 2 years straight after that trade, right? Weber was hurt often enough that it was looking pretty bad for them. First trade is almost even cap for even cap. leafs get a top pairing guy for Riley finally along with 2 quality middle 6 fowards and some much needed grit with miles wood

trade 2 is about freeing up money. johnson at 3.4 and dermont whos an rfa probably in the 2.5 range so around 6 mil goes out for chasion 2.1 and bear whos an rfa probably in the same range as dermont 2.5 but is right handed which the leafs desperately need and save 1.5-2 mil in the process

lastly sing the big nasty penalty killing machine in Gudas giving the leafs 3 right handed dman and d pairs something like this Riley PK, Muzzin Gudas, Sandin Bear...a huge improvement a 3 left and 3 right handed d...

The loss of marners offensive should be replaced by Pk, zacha, wood, and Robertson. these moves alos improve the leafs overall team depth which just wasnt strong enough

Trade Mariner or Nylander and Kapanen. They need a D and some depth in the line up. I think Anderson is capable but if not sign holtby for the right price. But he may want to much

What happened in Toronto was no surprise to anyone who was looking at this team honestly. You cant buy a stanley cup by loading a team up with superstars .

Chemistry, role players leadership non of which Toronto possesses. The ole saying goes to many chiefs and not enough Indians.


The first mistake imo was the tavares signing , he was overpaid , obviously he isn't a strong leader or reliable. What he did to the islanders is a prime example of a disloyal player whom is all about himself and not about the best interests of the team.


With the covid screwing up sports in general it's going to be hard for any team to trade these guys

2. Find a capable veteran back up goalie to alleviate some of the games played and pressure off Andersen.
Ex. Talbot, Khudobin, Greiss.

3. Let Barrie/Ceci walk in UFA + money saved from Nylander trade - SIGN Alex Pietrangelo 6x9mil. Probably 1/2 years of decline on contract but they get a solid #1 defenceman signed.

Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Kapanen, Kerfoot, Hyman, Mikheyev, Johnsson, Bowers, Robertson, Engvall, Gauthier. Couple other low key gritty free agent signings.

Leafs get some ltir contracts so they could keep most of their core together.

I’m sure whom is a much better leader than youm understand. What is the the advice of the Blackhawks on how many Indians a team should have. Also, I wasn’t sure if these should be Indians from South East Asia or North American Indians.

1. Nylander to Nash for Ekholm and a 2nd. (Savings of 3.2 mill)

2. Kapanen to Anaheim for Manson (Could be a pick included one way or the other) (taking on 900k in salary)

3. Sign Toffoli with money from Ceci leaving (4.5 mill)

Overall, the leafs replace Nylander and kap with Toffoli’s production, which could be a wash. They get a RD and a LD for a solid 2nd pairing. All while lowering their cap hit by 2.3 mill.
