I think that pick is gonna wind up in a package for a winger!!Almost a done deal...maybe throw in 2021 Islanders second rounder and they could help a cap strapped team somewhere.

.. where do you see it being almost a done deal? I'd love to package the pick for something more useful. It may be in the late 20s at this rate. But maybe the Blues come back.

Remember, the pick wont slide back from 18-20 until the conference finals. So even if they beat the blues it stays put until they win another round

How do picks work for playoff teams? I know it was said a few months ago.

From the end of first down to the middle it goes: 31 is the cup champ, 30 is the finalist, 29-28 are the conference finalists, 27-? are the division winners who didnt make the conference finals, then its the remaining eliminated non-division winning playoff teams in standings order down to 16. So the Canucks pick is 18-20 unless they make the conference finals which would make their pick fall to 28 at the earliest. It cannot be anywhere else. Same with the Yotes, it will be 16-18 unless they make the conference finals.

Right now the picks sit Habs at 16, Hawks at 17, Yotes at 18, Flames at 19, and the Canucks at 20. So to get the best picks from them we want them both to lose before the conference finals, and we would want the Habs and/or Hawks to get to the conference finals to lower the Yotes pick. Those same two teams plus the Flames to lower the Canucks pick. But yeah nothing really matters except the Yotes and Nucks losing before the conference finals, thats the only way their picks get worse for us

I see. So we have another round of wiggle room with the Canucks.

I was at the Rock for the draft when NJ traded the #9 pick for Schneider. I was horrified at time because I knew it was the end of Marty. Now seeing Bo go crazy makes it even worse... and Schneider is done. Sure we might not have taken Hovart but there were a lot of good players available at that pick. Of course we might have taken Mirco Mueller with the #9 pick too. He went 18th but I could see Conte pulling the trigger on that....

Anyway, anyone know what happened to our prospect Myles Bell????

Are you guys hoping for 18th overall from Arizona, or a later pick plus a 1st next year?

If AZ wins our 3rd next year becomes a second. That alone seems unlikely. Taylor Hall signing with them also is a long shot. So I think neither is going to happen.

The driving force for me is to get the best pick this year to hope for two quality 1st rounders. The Vancouver pick looks like it’s going to be late in the round.

Whatever happens we will deal with it.

I could see us ending up with two 1sts, a 3rd, Bahl, Merkley, and Hall back next season...... That is not bad for a rental if that is the case.

You never know but I'm skeptical Hall would come back. No complaints on the trade front. I think we did fine on Hall. We did great on Coleman and Vats. Also, the Andy Greene trade is pretty sweet.

It is a bit unfortunate that the draft lottery format and expanded playoffs haven't helped us; but it's the times we live in.

It did, and it didn't help us. It way Vats bring a 3rd back our way which wasn't going to happen if this format did not take place. But as you pointed out, we sold our players as rentals (except for Coleman) and brought back a fairly massive return. I am thrilled with the trades made. I still hold out hope for Hall to return, but it was a solid move regardless. Can't wait to see how this expansion draft shapes up.
