Yeah its pretty mind boggling why he couldn’t figure it out here.

He was pretty amazing for the Avs.

- Santo_44

interesting take - AGAIN.

Barrie's defensive stats were demonstrably worse than Gardiners during the season before the trade. Read that... let it sink in. Spreadsheet data said Gardiner - or beloved brain-cramp specialist - was MUCH better than Barrie defensively.

And Dubas the spreadsheet devotee went out and got him. Makes perfect sense.

It’s not, and we’ve seen too many of those players like that on this team.

Savards D isn’t worth the rest of his game.

Like Ceci.

- Santo_44

Savard is a Rh more Mobile versión of muZzin, and has better offensive skills.
Ceci has 0 offensive awareness.
They're nothing alike at all.

Max was right about Barrie, so I’ll take his side on this one. For now...

I’ve always liked Gardiner. So yeah we won’t agree there to begin with. Solid 2nd pairing D that I’d gladly take back if he was a RHD.

Kadri wasn't exactly commanding top d-men in return, was he? T.J. (frank)ing Brodie was Dubas's first choice but that deal fell through.

Barrie had been one of the top offensive d-men in the league for several years running. It seemed like a gamble worth taking considering the Leafs were sporting a high-octane offense. Why not try to tilt the ice more if there aren't any other available options?

Sometimes poop doesn't work out, bro. I doubt Dubas will try that gambit again.

But hey, let's play this tired Dubas is poop narrative out some more, yeah?

- mjones242

That’s all very well having more bullets than Ops but if you don’t hit the mark then so what. Different era but the Oilers learned that.

Nahh... Marner isn't the problem. On more than one occasion he saved a sure EN goal for the Leafs this playoff series. He played pretty decent defensively but had some hiccups on offense a couple of games.

The Leafs D is atrocious and the 3rd line needs a lot of work.

A consistent goalie would be terrific too.

- mjones242

The Marner criticism is ridiculous.

Andersen lets in a HORRIBLE goal in every critical game. It is a long history now. There is absolutely nothing that damages or a team's chances or deflates a team more than that.

andersen reminds me a lot of Lalime with Ottawa in the early 2000s (when we lost to you guy every year).

he was an excellent regular season goalie, his post season numbers were outstanding, but most of the goals he let in were absolute stinkers......as a result, he took a lot of blame for losing those series, even though is was largely our inability to score that hurt us most

He wasn’t good man, he had one scoring chance from a dangerous spot in the ice.

He was moving around well out there but not getting any chances. He’s better than just “ok” and deserves the criticism.

1 primary point in 12 games is not good for a 11 million dollar man.

He hasn’t been good in the playoffs lately. Fact.

Sure they need to score.

That doesn't mean the goaltending was adequate. It wasn't.

If Marner was 9m per he wouldn’t be in the trade convo. Big contracts get the lime light & scrutiny like it or not. Moving on down the list of contracts is ok in theory but it has to work & cannot be year after year of disappointment.

Who is ultimately accountable then & now?
