They absolutely failed repeatedly to turn it up a notch to win a series. The easiest way to visualize that extra “compete level” is to see bug guys hit people.

It's simple, we draft the Askarov.

He didn't make it easy for them either, and a no1 goalie should be better.

3 5v5 goals in 5 games

Pretty sure we need to score some more.

Outsider perspective, take with a block of salt :

Keep Andersen, he's not the problem on most bad nights.

Trade Marner for assets and cap relief.

Let Ceci, Barrie, and Marincin go.

Bring up Sandin and whats-his-face to fill Ceci and Barrie's slots.

Sign Pietrangelo, if not then sign Shattenkirk or Gudas or both.

Bring in a ringer who can fight and hit without being a defensive liability (too much).

Don't change (almost impossible), instead *add* to the culture with a tougher, gritter, two-way style. Leafs have guys who *could* hit more, but don't. Heck, watch little Tyler Johnson on the Lightning. He's not big, but he finishes checks and maximizes his angles/momentum/low center of gravity to his advantage and hits above his weight class. Palat also - not a beast by any means, but the guy throws solid hits.

The Lightning didn't change their high-flying, skill-based style, they just added a new element to it. Some new blood (Maroon, Goodrow), but also having skill players better indulge their physical element. Other teams are starting to become afraid of more than the Lightning's speed.

The Leafs could do all of that without burning things down.

I would agree with most of your point. And I agree Anderson is not the issue but he has a habit of letting bad goals in playoffs. But there is no other option in the system.

It's not how many, it is the ones that went in , that he should have had. Soft ones kill a team, you know that.

You know there is a huge difference between down by 2 late in a game and down by 1 right.

You know that when he lets in one like that, again, that affects the team.

I complained enough about the lack of heart and grit and compete. Those things are all missing. Today, I am pointing out that our goaltending has not been sufficient either

I used to think Toronto is miles ahead of Oilers. Not sure anymore.

Oilers have the best player but leafs have a better 1a and 1b C... but both share inconsistent goalies and bad defense.

Short of swapping mm with 1st pairing defense, I don’t see how we will fix this. Kap, And WN won’t get us 1st line defense.

But sending MM will almost surely cause AM to walk at the end of his contract.

The entire team didn't bother to give it the ole college effort in that game, so I guess neither should Andersen.

I 1000% agree with bad goals deflating the team. Complained about that with Hutch, Reimer, Bernier, Toskala.......

A few things:

1. Losing 3-0 in a playoff game with 3 or 5 5x5 goals scored all series and blaming Andersen for the loss doesn't totally add up...but I def see your point.

2. Who is the magical goalie that we CAN acquire to replace Freddy?

3. OUR D SUCKS!

4. OUR TEAM DISAPPEARS...#zambonigate.

5. Freddy is not the ONLY issue with the team, so look at the D first, heart and fire of the Fs next...and then Freddy because see #2

Well, I could point out that the best 5v5 scorer in the history of the game had ONE 5v5 goal, or that he had ONE shot on goal by the last minute of game 3 ...

But we all know how criticism in that direction gets handled here.

Honestly, the defense is not good, the goaltending is not good, and it is time to admit that NONE of the big $ forwards are performing up to their contract.
