Dude.

Do you know a pandemic is going on? A flat cap? A 75% cut in arena revenue which=massive budget cuts....Gudas is not getting anything over 1.5 million. All these 2-4 million dollar guys are going to suffer, they won’t get anything above 1.5 million this offseason.

mid and low-range Free agents are really going to get screwed over.

We could see "hockey trades" though because teams can't afford to address their problems in free agency.

Other goalies make saves, or have you not watched Leafs forwards get robbed all the time.

They also don't fail as consistently at critical times.

It’s weird.

We have these ultra high expectations for all our skaters...but our starter has to be just “ok” and have goals that are “not his fault” go in.

More accountability needs to go into goaltending.

If AM gave the puck away to make it 2-0, regardless of how well he has played we’d be calling for his head.

Freddy lets in an awful goal to make it 2-0 and it’s not his fault.

Agreed.

I see Dubas making the most of his Andersen, Kerfoot, Kap, Johnnson deals all being largely paid out.

Well we hit CLB guys a lot this series, he made a few good saves. The CLB play serious defence and give very little time and space...almost opposite of the Leafs.

Anyways, I respect your opinion just don’t totally agree. 👍

Outsider perspective, take with a block of salt :

Keep Andersen, he's not the problem on most bad nights.

Trade Marner for assets and cap relief.

Let Ceci, Barrie, and Marincin go.

Bring up Sandin and whats-his-face to fill Ceci and Barrie's slots.

Sign Pietrangelo, if not then sign Shattenkirk or Gudas or both.

Bring in a ringer who can fight and hit without being a defensive liability (too much).

Don't change (almost impossible), instead *add* to the culture with a tougher, gritter, two-way style. Leafs have guys who *could* hit more, but don't. Heck, watch little Tyler Johnson on the Lightning. He's not big, but he finishes checks and maximizes his angles/momentum/low center of gravity to his advantage and hits above his weight class. Palat also - not a beast by any means, but the guy throws solid hits.

The Lightning didn't change their high-flying, skill-based style, they just added a new element to it. Some new blood (Maroon, Goodrow), but also having skill players better indulge their physical element. Other teams are starting to become afraid of more than the Lightning's speed.

The Leafs could do all of that without burning things down.

This is a real fallacy.

The whiffs were not difficult shots. They weren't defensive mistakes. They were goaltending mistakes.

You absolutely, 100% cannot rely on him in a big game. That (frank)s with a team.

- Aetherial

Freddy needed to score to win that series. That’s the obvious observation. Leafs big boy talent didn’t get it done. No goals leading up to the bad goal. Poopty way to try to win a critical game. Leafs were too easy to play against.

He has something like a .885 save percentage in deciding games.

He hasn’t been good in that area and that’s a fact, and I’m not pinning the loss on him for it.

- Santo_44

Teams win Stanley cups on great goal tending, he has not been great.

Yep. Besides Matthews who played well enough to help win a series? Kerfoot and the 4th line and Robertson were our semi bright lights?

We know Barrie and Marincin are going to be garbage and that Freddie will let in a few softies. Putting this on him let’s way too many people off the hook.

Kap sucked....Not sure if he was hurt or what, no speed, no physical play....Willie floated around and banged 2 in. Softer than baby shiit

Defense was not the problem on the whiff in Game 1, Game 3, and Game 5. It also was not the problem on the game 7 whiffs against Boston.

Those were truly awful goals, not just saves he *maybe* should have made. They were crushing. I would argue that it has contributed to a team that now has some serious confidence issues they are fighting.

Interesting point. Hard to disagree.

However, I have PTSD from Toskala, Monster, Reimer, Bernier and Hutchinson.

I'm very reluctant to give up a goalie when there isn't another proven one to replace him with...especially without fixing our D.

It's why I keep saying, at the very least, to keep Campbell.

What do you expect from Kap? Watching Marner play like that.

And when they were playing well they dominated men. Willie and Marner are significant pluses on takeaways over giveaways.

There are some fixes required and they desperately need to get a handle on their lack of consistency and their inability to close out series.

Use his speed and his physical play from the spring. Because Marner played like a little girl, the rest of them didn't have to.

He didn't make it easy for them either, and a no1 goalie should be better.

Wow,

He had a CLEAR view of a shot from like 1 ft off the redline and couldn't stop it. IF he got out of the way it would not have gone in.

No way in hell that goal should ever go in against an NHL goalie. I can't believe some people are seriously conjuring up excuses for that one.

- Aetherial

You do know we didn't lose that game by 1 goal right? Just sayin'.

is Andersen a 6~7.5 mil goalie?

I get with the pandemic and all. I think he will want a bump in salary.

I like him at 5 mil or less.
