Pat Burns was always one of my favourite head coaches. Even when he was coaching the Leafs. đź‘Ť - gergeswillems
My wife worked with Pat Quinn’s brother and took our kid (he was 9 I think) into a Leafs practice one day. He got to meet and get autographs from all the players - Sundin, Belak, Tucker, Roberts, Joe Bowan. He’s still got the jersey with the autographs framed on his wall. The things that impressed him the most was watching Forsberg skating alone (Av’s were playing the Leafs and he was injured) and just seeing him handle the puck in the centre ice circle filled with pucks.
The other cool thing was that the coach had a fridge in his office and there was beer in it! |

He’s not saying they should ditch him but he should no longer be untouchable. And I agree. I prefer to deal Nylander but I doubt he will get you a 1st pairing defenseman. - gamerdoc
Marner should be the one traded, it would be a huge point to get across the minds of the rest of the team.
They all expect it to be Nylander, but Nylander produces. |

that was an interesting article.
I would look at the goalie situation as well unless the Leafs could extend Andersen a year or two at the same cap hit. - dmnted

I think the Leafs get out D'd and out worked before out goalied most nights.
Andersen is solid not lights out...I get that. He lets a few stinkers in on occasion...I get that. But he's been a solid and average NHL #1 for years....even with our terrible D. Goalies improve as they get older. He has none/slight injury concern.
I would extend Andersen cheap this summer, upgrade the D before next season and see what happens. KEEP CAMPBELL.
If Andersen doesn't carry his weight with one season of better D you trade him with a decent Cap hit and the term of the new deal. |

in the Lumbus series they were out goalied, and now that the dust has settled more. its wild how good both their goalers were.

I get the anger and whatnot from fans.
But I feel like a core of AM/MM/JT can get the job done.
The supporting players, well that need some work. And thats Dubas job to figure out.
So saying they believe in the core doesnt strike me as bizarre - senstroll
People think "disaster' is an over-reaction
There is nothing of note in the system, *maybe* Robertson, but a small forward is definitely not what the team needs.
They are working on their second year in a row without a first round pick
They can't make the playoffs and when they do they can't win a round
They are right up against the cap
So, no first, no cap, no saviour on the farm, no series wins, guys they will have a tough time re-signing, The gaping holes on defense are about to become gaping holes in net also...
Other teams, who were in a far worse situation are out-performing and surpassing them.

Totally agree with this....but would say that it doesn't happen to the Leafs that often, unless your other job is a zamboni driver.
Goalies get hot and crash...see Binnington.
Freddy is, if nothing else, consistently good...never lights out, never Toskala'd out.
I would really like to see him with better D before dumping him. |

A better question would be to ask how many times we are actually out-goaltending other teams. Then do that same analysis in the playoffs.
I would love to know what the guys in the room thought when that second goal went in late in the game when they are down 1 in a deciding game... and he has done that in every deciding game with this core. |

But they were so far below where they’ve been this year. That’s the conundrum for Dubas (assuming the brain trust on here doesn’t fire him).
He has to make changes and improve the defence but at times this team has been dominant this year.
He has to recognize that his they come up short year after year but seem to have a different problem every year.
I know every here has their pre-formed solutions but it’s not an obvious issue. |

Pretty sure having 5 guys in the crease is helping. |

Defense was not the problem on the whiff in Game 1, Game 3, and Game 5. It also was not the problem on the game 7 whiffs against Boston.
Those were truly awful goals, not just saves he *maybe* should have made. They were crushing. I would argue that it has contributed to a team that now has some serious confidence issues they are fighting.

Yes
but it gets even worse unless we think Jack Campbell is the answer.
The Murray idea is interesting, but I really wonder if he is any better to be honest. |

I blame the whole line and Freddie ( i’d like to see the goal from above as I couldn’t see if CLB had a guy coming in high,..then Freddie has to protect the post and worry about the pass ( he knows MM ain’t going to do much ) |

Definitely. If Marincin didn't pick up the puck, push Freddy out of the way, and then throw it in the net, the Leafs might be playing Tampa this evening! |

The shooter was way to far out to have to protect the post, come out of the crease and cover the angles. |
