Cap hit is tough no doubt.
Elite talent if he is moved fetches big help.

Then he shouldn’t need 10-15MM dollars worth of linemates. He’s the one I want to keep. Just pointing out if he needs elite linemates to succeed then we are all wrong in our assessment of his worth

He doesn't need elite linemates to succeed. Elite linemates can help him succeed even more.

Toews and Kane accounted for a good deal of the Hawks cap before they signed their monster deals -- they were around 22% of the payroll. Marner and Matthews are roughly 27%, which isn't astronomically different.

I'm not understanding the desire to give up on an all-star winger who is trending towards being a consistent 100+ point player.

Cbus forwards are what a combined 34M?
- drexel

And I'm interested to see how far the team can go. I really think we've seen their full upside. They outplayed a Leaf team that did n to play well and has issues that need to be addressed but that has way more upside in my view, even with Jones and Werenski.

You can argue about a few $M on a contract here or there but there's value in those $40M contracts

If only Mathews and Marner had they same give a poop factor as Toews and Kane.

Cap hit point is bullpoop unless you think he is grossly overpaid. He'd be traded for a player or players with a similar cap hit.

also discounting the depth and quality of that teams defence after a Keith and Seabrook

How much would you pay Buff if he announced he would return? Who would you be willing let go to get him?

Depends if he’s 400 lbs and limping around the woods still

Jones/Werenski cost a combined 10.4m
Just played TB to 5 OT’s
CBJ is in the PO’s.
They had a 4min meltdown.
Leaves 30m to find more value.

He’s expendable
- Nighthawk

He was rounding into a very valuable asset before the injury. He had a long time off after that. I didn't think he had a great series against CBJ, but then nobody really did. I think you need to give him more of a chance before letting him walk.

Stunning because it is true.

When you troll, you should never make the mistake of actually thinking what you have to say has any real value. It makes your trolling not fun. It just betrays you as the buffoon you are.

Be better.

They drafted one. And wait for it. Traded a highly regarded forward at the time for a d man. Crushed that trade

All this fu3king jibber jabber....mostly responding to trolls in this place.

Beside the id1ot gallery and their dumbsh1t, you don't trade a player like Marner unless you absolutely have to. Don't think we are there YET.

The Gull posted the perfect post a few pages ago with Nylander/Dermott in a trade for Brodin/Foligno and then a list of Leafs that were trade-able to fill in other holes.

That's the real way this gets done.

Matthews
Marner
Reilly
Tavares
Muzzin
Hyman
Micheyev
Kerfoot
Spezza
Campbell

Stay. Period.

(Campbell stays because we need a solid back up with starter ability, in case. I would keep Andersen, but open to maybe finding someone better)

Everyone else should and can be traded to balance the rest of the roster.

Send Nylander to Anaheim for Manson.

Hyman, Matthews, Marner
Micheyev, JT, ???
???, Kerfoot, ???
Clifford, Spezza, ???

Reilly, Manson
Muzzin, ???
Sandin, Holl

Andersen
Campbell

Shouldn't be too hard to fill in the blanks on the bottom 6, we already have a few that work if they don't get traded...Kap/Johnsson.

Find a nice solid, heavy, hardworking player with hands on RW for JT/Micheyev and a partner for Muzzin...start there and this team is vastly different because we have an actual NHL quality defense.

Keep Mikheyev. Versatile, big, fast, kills penalties. Sign him for 2 years at 1.75.
- Steven_Seagull

definitely. suggesting to trade this guy would make zero sense, particularly given his likely CAP hit and the general CAP crunch the Leafs will be in with a flat cap. Mikheyev's upside is far above all or any of Kerfoot, Johnsson, Kapanen and certainly any of the potential Marlie candidates.
