people need a scapegoat and marner didn't play up to his 10.8.
So if he wants big money, hes gotta play and take criticism when needed.
Am had a really good qualifier.

Who played up to their money? Rielly, Holl, Robertson.

Nobody played up to their money. But we are singling out our leading scorer 2 of the past 3 years and playoff leading scorer the last 4 years and giving our other guys a pass apparently.

I don't like him as a captain.

I don't know that that is his fault though. I think Marner and Matthews believe that is their room... and it probably should have been.

Matthews should have been given the C. I said that all along, even after underpants-gate.

Nah, jt was the right choice
Am can captain his next team.

Freddy should’ve scored too. 🤷‍♂️

Naw I would settle for not whiffing on a goal in EVERY critical game.

You know not all NHL goalies do that right?

Jt has played well, but needs to be better.

It was never his team he walked from them. The C was not earned without service of duty & leadership. His pressers blow.

They can't lose Matthews. They cannot afford to let him walk at the end of that contract.

Same.

The Leafs fück everything up.

But after today I’m a little more confident that Dubas gets it now. Going to bat for Mitch was a good thing.

I honestly think he trades Willy this offseason.

Yeah Nylander is the one who needs to go. Would be good if they didn't sign Tavares. Would have had our first still AND would have been a serious player for Pietrangelo. Unfortunately, Tavares has a NTC and would be difficult to move anyway with this cap situation.

people are trying to justify who can be moved, and do that by placing blame.

matthews is a 1st overall pick, the face of the franchise, and your highest paid player......he could have had zero points, scored twice on his own net, and been on for every goal against and still wouldn't have been 'the problem" because there is zero chance the team would ever trade him.

Personally I'd trade Matthews.
Great scoring C but bad character it seems.

Would have liked our best scorer to have more than ONE 5v5 goal.

He was easily the best forward though, so I cant argue too much.

I can't wait to see him in the playoffs next year.

Well, I was making a point that there should not be a radically different assessment of the two.

Matthews was our best forward, easily. The loss to CBJ was not his fault.

Nylander was so soft and looked horrible when not on the ice with one of the other big names. He is the one who needs to go for defensive help.

The biggest thing JT could’ve done is turn it down. Then during the media circus said he didn’t earn it in his short time as a Leaf & someone else was far more deserving. Enter Reilly. That is leadership. The C doesn’t ordain a Captain.

i don't care who gets traded, trade am if it makes the team better. Of course i doubt it would.

Just get better. Dont get how its done or who goes.

What ever happened to BeattleJohn?

I'm reminded of him tonight. Of course he's not hear anymore but his 'step up on his soapbox and educate us all' schtick will always be missed.

Mostly because his takes were hilarious and clearly the ramblings of a self righteous lunatic.
