I didnt like it at the time either. I really liked Kahun.

I mean I actually like Rodrigues and he's a little more versatile...but a) we didnt use him and b) we still gave away the best player in the deal imo

Rod doesn't move me and I just don't really see where he fits.

Grinder is a dating app for homosexual human beings (did I offend anyone by saying that)?

You see people's pictures and swipe one way if you find them attractive and the other way if you don't. If you both swipe each other, you can then be setup to chat. It's like the other one that's for heterosexual human beings.

I mean, uhhhh...so I've heard.

prediction: the penguins draft someone projected to go in the late 1st round and we all feel like we wasted our one decently high pick

with very little knowledge other than scouting reports.... I think Guhle or Jarvis would be good gets. Holloway seems to have Penguin type of player written all over him.

They should try to get that Lafreniere kid I've heard a few people mention.

As a secondary thought. I read an article how Malkin was seconds away from almost being traded last offseason. Due to being upset with the team and essentially multiple organizational people and players talked him off the ledge to stay with the Pens. I guess part of it was over wanting to be the main guy, and his frustration.

So the rumored trade to Florida almost happened. I wonder with Gonchar being gone, and our quick departure from the playoffs, if he goes off that he wants to be elsewhere again?

"Seconds away from Almost"

So, Did Malkin trade himself, then decided to not trade himself in the last few seconds?

JR negotiated a deal and it was all done at Geno's request, then Geno changed his mind and that was it?

Too bad, if it was for Huberdeau that would have been a good get. Doubt that deal is on the table now. Maybe ask Geno if he can get on the phone and make it happen?

Holloway seems like the type of player the Pens are always looking for, but haven't had aside from Kunitz.

There are actually a lot of good players in that range. Read a report today that said the top 6 forward/ top 4 defenseman/ starting goalie group was 20 deep. If we trade it, it better not be for a rental player in his 30s.

I like Jarvis, especially once he fills out a little bit.

Claude Julien with chest pains and taken to hospital. Cant return until after the series and Muller is taking over as head coach...perhaps the Habs will rally around this and out the Flyers....

This from the same article if true could be trouble (other than maybe moves JJ). It's both Rossi and Yohe on this BTW:

The Penguins, for the first time since 2007, likely will not spend near the salary cap to start the upcoming season, according to multiple team and league sources.

Revenue is down, in part because of early playoff exits and in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and ownership believes cost-cutting measures are reasonable at this time. Rutherford would be permitted to spend to the cap in-season if ownership was convinced the club was a piece or two away from a deep playoff run, team and industry sources said.

“They’re a revenue-based ownership. They spend what they make,” an industry source said. “Maybe it’s not the best thing to count on playoff home games, but they do, so nobody should be surprised if things tighten there.”

The Penguins have 16 players with guaranteed roster spots who count $68.2 million against an $81.5 million cap. But multiple team and league sources said the Penguins will look to spend in the low- to mid-$70 million range to start next season. To get there, the team will seek trades of multiple veterans, especially because ownership favors those moves over buyouts.

Ugh, we might as well start the rebuild. We are now the Minnesota Wild. Actually, they have a couple of guys with heart now.

Since it’s Malkin trade suggestions time of the year and his only destination being Florida here’s mine:

Malkin + 15th for Barkov + 2nd

Good article. It's not a hill I'm willing to die on, but with how promising his first half was, I'd be inclined to give McCann another shot. Haven't heard a better option yet.
- Tojo.

They don't really have a choice considering that they plan to be ~$10M under the cap. If we have an injury to one of the four centers, I have no idea who would fill in at center, but it won't be good.

It is a silly discussion, but I don't see the motivation for Florida other than getting a better draft pick. In normal times, you could say they would be motivated to get Malkin to draw fans to the arena, but not now. Barkov is the new Malkin, but he's 10 years younger and $3.6M cheaper. We would have to add and we wouldn't be getting anything else.

As for Malkin, for the first time, I could actually see him wanting to move. Not because he wants to be "the man," but because of the slow moving trainwreck the Pens have become with no end in sight.

If they can't show ownership that they can win with a solid top 6(missing one more piece) a good top 4 defense and Jarry in goal then it's over anyways. Maybe this will give Poulin a real shot. I'm sure Simon will get looks up there too. POJ, Legare and Hallender will probably make the team too if they really aren't spending to the cap. We'll see who we draft as well. Other thing also is if they don't like the winger/center options from free agency anyways then why waste spending on them?

So with what was said at the end of the article that ownership favors trades over buyouts. Does that mean they are willing to buyout this off-season? If that's the case Horny, Bjugstad and JJ will all probably be gone. Horny and Bjug probably by way of trade and JJ bought out. Will miss Horny though.

Until JJ is moved or bought out I won't even entertain him not being in a Pens uniform next year. I will continue to believe they have confidence in him.

But it wasn't a fair showing with Sheary on the top line, JJ getting prime minutes, Murray in goal, and Sully butchering deployments. As for FA wingers, if they don't like Hoffman, Hall, Dadonov, or Toffoli, then they don't like anyone and aren't interested in competing. Those guys you mention are what rebuilding teams put out there, not a team in the last year(s) of the Crosby/Malkin/Letang Cup window.

I haven't seen specific mention from Friedman, other people are reporting he believes Domi will be a Penguin next season.

Looking at the wings blog I’m pretty pessimistic about Murray’s value. There are a TON of goalies who will either be UFAs or available for trade this offseason. I will be thoroughly shocked if we’re able to pull off a one for one trade with him for one of the players we need.

Personally I never expected to get a player in return. My guess is a 2nd and a prospect. If it was for a player I'd imagine another RFA the team doesn't expect to keep.

What do you all think of Craig Smith as a 3C candidate if NSH doesn't re-sign him? He's a righty which is a plus.

I meant this upcoming season to show ownership, not this past playoffs.Hall is really the only one I truly want, maybe Toffoli depending on the price tag.
